The Superbowl should be about the game but it's really about the following:
- militarized police and the surveillance state on full display and getting people adjusted to that and normalizing it
- the promotion of militarism forever and never-ending wars while thanking the soldiers for serving the financial elites and their interests
- an exponential growth consumer culture promoting the use of more and more resources at an ever increasing pace on a finite planet
Basically it's used as one big sales pitch because they have the attention of so many people. The game is secondary and the outcome irrelevant. I wish it was just about the game, but it isn't, and hasn't been for quite a long time!
