MLB Trade Deadline

in #sports8 years ago

The San Francisco Giants needed pitching and they got that. They need to give up one of there young infielder and prospects. So what move did they make to make this possible. They went and got super utility man. So who did they get you might ask? Who did they have to give up?

First they got Eduardo Nunes from the Minnesota Twins and gave up minor league pitching prospect Adalberto Mejia. Nunes was an all star this year for the Twins with a .296 batting average with 12 home runs and 27 stolen bases this year. He can play 2nd 3rd ss and lf. The Giants gave up one of there better pitching prospects in Mejia, but Nunes is not just a rental he is under contract through 2017 season.

Second they got bullpen help in the form of left handed reliever Will Smith from the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for minor league prospects catcher Andrew Susac ( has big league experience ) and pitcher Phil Bickford. This is the guy they have been missing all year long a lefty who can get both left and right handed batters out. He is the new Jeremy Afelt, and we all know how important he was to Bruce Bochy and the Giants bullpen in the past years.

And there last trade was the biggest one. They got left handed starting pitcher Matt Moore from the Tampa Bay Rays. In exchange for their young every day 3rd baseman Matt Duffy, and minor leaguers ss Lucius Fox and Michael Santos. Matt Moore was a ace on the rise for the Rays in 2013 before having to have Tommy John surgery at the beginning of 2014 season. All signs seem to point to him starting to figure it out in last 6 starts. He is only 27 years old and is under team control for the next 3 seasons.

So they got a starter to add to the rotation. They got an arm for the bullpen. And they got an infielder. The infielder they got will step in and take the place of the infielder you had to trade to get the starting pitcher. The infielder they got is under contract through 2017 season, witch gives prospect Christian Arroyo More time to get ready before coming up and being an everyday big leaguer. And they got the bullpen help they have needed all season long.
I think all these moves were very good moves for the Giants. They filled their needs and not on rental players all 3 are under team control through at least 1 more season. So I would say trade deadline was a success for the Giants. What do you guys think?
