Defending champion Rafael Nadal got off to a slow start to beat British qualifier Dan Evans in the second round of the Rogers Cup in Montreal. Despite the game's delay due to rain, Nadal ended Evans's 7-7 (6) 6-4 dream in two hours and a minute.
Nadal fell to 5-2 in the tiebreak before returning to win their first career meeting of the world No. 53. The Spanish star jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second set before the game was halted by heavy rain.
As the game progressed, Evans trailed 3-3 before Nadal, who lost his first match after defeating Roger Federer in the Wimbledon semi-finals.
Nadal will next face Argentinian Guido Pella, who won 6-3 2-6 7-6 (2) against Radu Albot of Moldova.
It appears that Rafa has no sign of slowing down. Hopefully the King of Clay can defend his title.
