“The Brewers are planning to call up left-handed pitching prospect Aaron Ashby, reports Jeff Passan of ESPN (Twitter link). The 23-year-old is expected to work out of the bullpen initially, Passan notes. He isn’t on the 40-man roster, so a corresponding move is forthcoming. Ashby is one of the game’s more exciting pitching prospects. Milwaukee selected…”

“His ERA and estimators still look fine, but there is reason to be skeptical of the manner in which Devin Williams has been putting up scoreless innings this year. In addition to his inconsistent control, Williams has lost velocity on his fastball. Baseball Savant Even if we were to chalk up the location problems to Williams never being a control pitcher to begin with, the velocity drop and ineffectiveness of his fastball are still concerning. Williams has issued at least one walk in 16 of his 33 appearances (48.5%).”
“The Brewers greeted their old starter somewhat rudely, as Davies issued a walk to Willy Adames as the second batter of the game, and then he stole second and came around to score on a Christian Yelich double to give Milwaukee an early 1-0 lead. Yelich walked to begin the inning and eventually stole second base, then after a pair of punchouts, Jace Peterson came through with an RBI single to give the home team a 2-1 advantage. Milwaukee’s offense went dormant after Davies exited the game; they finished with only two hits on the night, and only two batters reached base from the fifth inning on — one by walk and one on a fielding error. Davies was done after four innings of two-run ball, but Woodruff lasted through the sixth while giving up just the one run.”
“Hand Josh Hader the baseball with a lead. Hader dove back to first base to ensure he got the out, forcing Lobaton to tumble to the ground in an effort to avoid stepping on Hader. “He’s been doing it for four years now, and there’s no secret to what he’s doing,” said Brewers ace Brandon Woodruff, who delivered another pitching gem of his own for the game’s first six innings. We’re a good team.” It all leads to Hader in the ninth.”
“Ashby will start the game and the Brewers hope for a couple of innings in his Major League debut with family on hand, including his uncle, former Major League right-hander Andy Ashby. “He’s one of our top people and we think he can help the big league club, at least out of the ‘pen initially,” Triple-A manager Rick Sweet said. “I think just throwing strikes early and often is the biggest thing,” Ashby said. “I think putting him in at the start of the game, it gives him a little familiarity,” Counsell said.”
“• Brewers Stat of the Day, May 2021 “That’s just a guy that’s making pitches,” Brewers manager Craig Counsell said. 11, 2010 vs Arizona, 4th inning June 6, 1999 vs Colorado, 7th inning May 26, 1996 vs Chicago White Sox, 8th inning Sept. 10, 1986 vs Detroit, 4th inning May 31, 1980 vs Boston, 4th inning The record is seven games in a single season with at least four hits, and it shouldn’t surprise you that the mark belongs to Paul Molitor. 1, 1987: Teddy Higuera at Royals (two outs in eighth) May 28, 1988: Odell Jones at Indians (one out in ninth) April 23, 2009: Bush at Phillies (one out in eighth) But to find the last instance at home, you have to go all the way back to July 16-17, 1983, against the Twins at County Stadium.”
