The Miami Heat made history after posting the "biggest first-quarter margins" in NBA history when they beat the Houston Rockets, 129-100.

The tandem of former MVPs James Harden and Russell Westbrook was not enough against Miami, with the score still at 46-14 in the first quarter.

The Heat's record-breaking performance in the opening quarter was the third in NBA history since the shot clock era during the 1954-1955 NBA season.

Miami's relentless showdown and even in three point areas were led by Duncan Robinson with 23 points, Meyers Leonard with 21 points, Jimmy Butler with 18 points and nine assists, James Johnson with 17 points and Goran Dragic finishing with 15 points.

Aside from the hot streak, Miami also limited Westbrook to a 10-point deficit and Harden struggled to score 29 points.

Miami's head coach is Filipino American Erik Spoelstra.

Spoelstra immediately paid tribute to the energy shown in his players' game.

Leonard said that no one should be surprised at what they did because they were preparing for the execution of their plays to bring the Rockets home.

Harden said they struggled to keep up with the Heat's heat and energy from the start of the game until the end of the game.
