Tim Reed
Caroline Steffen
TWO months after winning the Ironman 70.3 title in Subic, once again, Tim Reed of Australia and Caroline Steffen of Switzerland have re-emerged their rightful dominance after topping the 2019 Regent Aguila Ironman 70.3 held yesterday in Shangri-La Mactan Resort & Spa in Lapulapu city.
Reed, in the men's division, still needed help and support from his teammates in the final minutes to reach the finish line so it would not be possible to have Mike Philips of New Zealand nearing completion. a 1.9-kilometer swim, 90-kilometer bike and 21-kilometer run.
This is in stark contrast to Steffen's work on the women's class who will never get a head start from the very end to the competition organized by Sunrise Events, Inc. He left Australian rival Dimity Lee Duke for 12 minutes.
They are now the recognized king and queen of triathlon worldwide. Reed already had four titles when he won the 2015, 2016 and 2017 editions while also Steffen's sixth championship in eight Ironman 70.3 performances from 2012 to 2016.
There was one time when she was not participating because she gave birth and last year she was second only to Czech Radka Kahlefeldt who was unable to defend her crown yesterday due to illness.
In total, Reed finished the route with 4:01:22. Not far behind Philips was 4:02:09 and Australia's Tim Van Berkel was third (4:03:12).
“I just love the place. If you feel happy with the place you race well and the six wins speak for itself, ”Steffen said. “I love the heat, everything and I look forward to coming back here. I keep saying that it's one of my favorite races but it's not true ... because this is my favorite. ”
Nikko Huelgas and Alexandra Ganzon, also dominated the Asian Elite division.
