The Portuguese João Rodrigues (W52-FC Porto) today won the 81st Tour of Portugal by bicycle, winning the 19.5 km time trial of the 10th and final round, which linked Vila Nova de Gaia to Porto.
After leaving for the last leg behind Jóni Brandão, by hundredths of a second, João Rodrigues was fastest in the crono in 27:31 minutes, 15 seconds less than António Carvalho (W52-FC Porto) and 27 than the Efapel cyclist.
Overall, Rodrigues, 24, finished 27 seconds ahead of Brandão and 1.08 minutes over Veloso.
João Rodrigues succeeds in the history of the race to Spaniard and teammate Raul Alarcon, who missed the Volta by injury, three years after the latest Portuguese to win the race, also 'dragon' Rui Vinhas.
