Now onto the News, Rumors, and Commentary…
“The 2021 Rangers have to win out to avoid 100 losses, which, while possibly, is extremely unlikely. Texas Rangers lineup for September 26, 2021 against the Baltimore Orioles: starting pitchers are Dane Dunning for the Rangers and John Means for the Orioles. The Rangers are sitting at 99 losses for the first time since 1985, when they ended the year at 62-99, and a canceled and not rescheduled game was potentially the only thing keeping them from 100 losses. To win out they would have to win today in Baltimore against John Means, a very good pitcher who is having a very good year.”
“Owen White started and went five innings, allowing three runs on seven hits and two walks, striking out three. Destin Dotson went 3.1 scoreless innings, walking three and striking out three. Cody Freeman had a pair of hits. Cole Uvila allowed a run on three hits in 0.1 IP.”
“Jordan Lyles had a nice outing in his final start on the road this season as he went 6 2⁄3 innings and allowed three runs on seven hits with four strikeouts and one walk. The Texas Rangers scored two runs but the Baltimore Orioles scored three runs. Up Next: The Rangers and Orioles close out this series with Texas playing their final road game of the 2021 season. The wheels came off for Lyles in the seventh as he allowed all three runs after six scoreless but you can’t argue too much with a quality start from Lyles at this point.”
““I can argue that we’ve had the best outfield defense in all of baseball,” Woodward said. As disappointing as the loss was, Taveras’ play on Saturday and his home run-robbing catch on Friday reminded the Rangers skipper of how impressive this outfield has been all season. “I’m not going to undervalue what Joey [did],” said Woodward on the increase in production from the outfield. “I don’t know what the numbers say, but I’m just saying from the eye test every day, I haven’t come across a better one.” Since trading away a Gold Glove right fielder, the Rangers shifted rookie Adolis García to Joey Gallo’s former spot.”
