The World Boxing Organization (WBO) has ordered bantamweight champion Zolani Tete to defend his championship against interim champion John Riel Casimero.
The WBO gives Tete camp 90 days after Casimero's victory on August 24 against Cesar Ramirez who knocked him out in the tenth round at the San Andres Sports Complex in the capital.
Frank Warren, Tete's promoter, has revealed that negotiations are under way now with Casimero, the former flyweight world champion.
A native of Ormoc City and a former Cebu resident is now under the supervision of Manny Pacquiao's MP Promotions and under the guidance of Nonoy Neri.
Casimero has a 28-4, 19KOs record. Became interim champion when he dropped Ricardo Espinoza.
Tete, meanwhile, holds a 28-3, 21KOs record. He was supposed to compete with "Filipino Flash" Nonito Donaire for the WBSS semifinal bout but withdrew when he sustained a shoulder injury.
South Africans will rise to the ring with an advantage over Casimero. Tete stands 5-9 tall compared to Casimero's 5-4. But the fact that he is well-rested is worth the risk.
