Harry Maguire's move to Manchester United for £ 80m has made the England national team the most expensive defensive player ever and made it directly to the all-time high-profile team, as assembled in the Spanish "Marquee".
These 11 players, each of whom is dear in his role, together cross the billions of euros (1.2 billion to be exact), an astronomical sum for all opinions. In addition, none of these players crossed the age of 27 when he broke the record in his post. The Blue were looking for a replacement for Tibo Courtois who left for Real Madrid and had to break the record for a goalkeeper, broken a few weeks earlier by Allison who moved from Rome to Liverpool for € 75m. With the goalkeeping record high since 2001, Janeluigi Buffon moved from Parma to Juventus for € 53 million.
Right defender: Kyle Walker (€ 56 million)
Pep Guardiola has revolutionized Manchester City since arriving in 2016. Defenders have always been a key part of the Spanish game system, like Danny Elves in Barcelona. In 2017, he made Walker the most valuable defensive player in history as he paid Tottenham nearly € 60 million and set a new threshold for pricing players from the back.
Brake: Virgil Van Dyke (€ 85 million)
Liverpool chased a long time after the Dutch brake in January 2018 from Southampton for € 85 million. In no time Van Dyke was able to stabilize the Reds defense, came with them to two Champions League finals and won in May with Liverpool in the Sixth Cup in Madrid. Next goal: winning the championship after 30 years.
Brake: Harry Maguire (€ 88 million)
The newcomer to the list. Much like Liverpool. Manchester United also want to upgrade its defense and put their trust in the Leicester City brake, which excelled in the England national team at the World Cup. It remains to be seen whether he will justify the price.
Left defender: Lucas Hernandez (€ 80 million)

Contact: Frankie de Jong (€ 75 million)
Barcelona courted Ajax for a long time and secured its services in the middle of last season. The amount could grow by an additional € 11 million, depending on De Jong's achievements on the lawn and the titles he will win.
Attack: Philippa Coutinho (€ 145 million)
