The World cup newcomers stunned the South America side after the 90 minutes of amazing football in Russia. The group D opening match started with high expectations from Argentina but the team failed to get a win in the match.
Argentina captain Lionel Messi failed to give his side a win after losing a penalty in the second half of the match. The Barcelona star was fell in the box by the Iceland defenders which resulted into a penalty but Messi couldn't convert. It was a very disappointing outing for the Argentina squad as they were held draw against Iceland.
Kun Aguero open the score line in the 19th minutes putting Argentina ahead before Alfred Finnbogason canceled the lead in the 23rd minutes. The first half ended a draw with the hope for the Argentines coming into the second half of for victory.
Argentina had the chance of taking the lead again from the kick spot but he failed to convert from the spot kick. The Iceland team put up a fantastic performance as a first timer against a World Cup regular.
The second match of group D will come up later tonight between Nigeria vs Croatia.
