Day 4 of the 100 Squats Per Day to Fight Cancer

I'm writing this early in the morning, as my kids and wife still slumber. Visions of sugarplums dancing in their heads maybe. My legs hurt. That isn't what woke me up. I try to always wake up at the same time everyday. I think shifting the morning time from weekdays to weekends does more harm than good by messing up our internal clock.

But I digress.

So let's talk about yesterday, which was day 4 on the schedule. After the weekend I will catch up and get on the proper day, but for now I'm still writing behind. Yesterday my legs were sore sore sore sore. Man, they were sore! And this made my 100 yesterday more challenging.

Beyond squatting down once or twice in the course of my day, I hadn't done any squats for exercise in over 20 years before starting this challenge. I went from that to 100 and I paid the price for that! As sore as my legs were, they were more jelly than anything. Walking up stairs was ok, but walking down stairs I was a little wobbly and very glad to have a rail to hold onto.

Because of that I waited until noon before even attempting any squats. Then I did 25. That was ok. When I tried to do more, however, it just wasn't happening. So I decided then and there that I'd split up my 100 in 4 batches for that day. And that worked well. I did another 25 in the afternoon, then again before dinner, and finished it off before bed.

Splitting it up, it wasn't bad. I stretched a lot before bed to avoid getting too tight and went to bed with very sore legs! And they are still very sore right now as I write this, although not as sore as they were yesterday, so there is some improvement already going on.

Anyway, there's another day out of the way. Here is my progress!

Today I think I will wait till noon again before trying anything. I will try to either do all 100 at once as I did on the first day. If my legs are still too sore for that, I'll aim to split the squats into two chunks of 50 each. Maybe I'll even do some bonus ones! Wish me luck!

I'm doing this 100 Squats per day Challenge to raise funds for Cancer Research. Read my challenge announcement here. I'm doing it with @livinguktaiwan. If anyone else wants to join, please do, and please mention it here! If I see enough interest, I'll create a community for it so we can all more easily be cheerleaders for each other.

The stairs! Yes, I had to hold on tight to the handrail and walk slowly down on the first few days. This morning, day 5, all the pain had disappeared!! It's like I'm born again 😄

Keep squatting!
