First update!

in #sri-lanka2 years ago

Hi all,

So it's already been a couple of days that we have been literally hitting the road with our rickshaw with @stoodkev and @jordan-tainan and an update is way overdue.

Starting day was really fun, you could definitely see the excitement of all the teams on the starting line. This was challenged when everyone had their first encounter with the local traffic. It's a complete chaos which ends up being quite fluid. Anyone familiar with Fluid Dynamics and Chaos Theory would probably understand that. Driving there is somewhat scary but at the same time we have not seen a single accident yet whereas where i live in taiwan it's almost on a daily basis.
Driving the rickshaw and trying to understand how the hell this third gear can be passed smoothly was also a challenge in itself.

Our first stop at the end of day 1 was in Sigiriya where we could enjoy well deserved beers. On day 2 we visited Lion Rock, a temple complex which was built around a huge rock amd disguised as the shape of a lion. Pretty impressive but also tiring, especially in this scorching sun.

We then went on to the next city, Kandy, but decided to stop at a traditional herbal amd spice farm on the way. They gave us an herbal massage which was a bit unexpected but also introduced us with many of their products. They claim they have a cure for almost everything. Whether you believe it or not, that was in any case smelling really good!
We eventually arrived in Kandy which is the heart of Buddhism in Sri Lanka. One of the tooth of Buddha is said to be kept there. We actually managed to arrive just in time for the ceremony of the opening of the Tooth shrine, where devotees could bring their offering. The shrine only opens for 10 min so we were definitely quite lucky to have had this opportunity to witness such fervour.

After another very good dinner made of local delicacies (it's very similar to Indian food), we decided to go back to the hotel and prepare for the next day. Tea Farms are on the least. We should be able to get quite some nice shots from up there. I hope i can share them with you soon.

Hey @balourdos95, kind of envy you for that road trip right now as it's overcast here and it's going to rain :) Anyway, enjoy your trip.

I know you're new on Hive, so let me drop you a few suggestions to help you navigate better on our platform.

I see you posted this post on your blog and not in any community. We have different communities on Hive and we're encouraging users to post in the right community based on the topic of the post. This post for example would fit in Pinmapple, which is a travel community.

Here's a guide I put together to help you learn about how communities work and why you should use them -> Communities Explained - Newbie Guide. I also put together a list of communities, which is not complete, there are much more communities on Hive, but it will help you get started.

Once you posted your post in the right community, you can then cross post it to OCD community. Here's a guide about cross posting.

Please don't delete any post with the purpose of reposting it in another community as that can be considered abuse.

Thank you for the tips!

My pleasure.
