My NYSC EXPERIENCE - EPISODE 1

  • Life doesn't always give us what we want -

It all started like a blaze during the ending of January last year, I had just been called to the Nigerian Bar as a young Lawyer qualified to practice law the previous month and was patiently waiting for my posting for National Youth Service (NYSC) a one year mandatory service to fatherland for all Nigerian graduates who are below the age of 30. This day had been a day expected, but not one that came the way it eventually did.
Before this day, we had been getting rumors of posting being out only to log on unto the site to discover it was all a sham (Thank God for smart phones).

How the NYSC scheme Works:

How the scheme works is that one after graduation from any tertiary institution in the country is shortlisted by his/her Institution for a one year National Youth Service to fatherland (Nigeria), where this young graduates are randomly posted to different States of the Federation based on their choices of about four (4) states, which I later came to realise is not binding on them, as they can still post you to anystate nor withstanding your choices.
The only lucky ones in this are the married women, who are posted to their state of residence where they can be closer to their husbands. Funnily this doesn't apply to the male counterparts. The reason for this is one that yours truly have not been able to fathom out, whether it is presupposed that husbands don't need the warmth of their wives or it is just based on the general statistics that most Nigerian men are not usually married before the age of 30 being the age limit for the scheme, the answer is one that can only be left for one to ponder.

This program was put forth in 1973 after the Nigerian civil war to cushion the effects of the war which had in a great extent disrupted the unity of the country, whether this goal of unifying Nigeria through this program has been achieved, is one topic that's left for debate.

BACK TO MY STORY..😉
This morning, just like many other mornings I had stayed awake late into the early hours of the morning surfing the internet and chatting with whom you would later come to meet...lol 😉. I was woken up by the loud blaze of my Samsung Galaxy traditional ring tone. The sound was blazingly annoying as I was just trying to get into the depth of my sleep at that hour of the morning, I'm sure most of you can relate to this feeling. To others it was morning being around 7:13am, but to me who had just closed his eyes at around pass 4am, the night was just getting started.
With the noise of my blazing ringtone still sending sharp pains to my head, I opened my eyes slightly and could see the morning light pressing through my brown window blind.

I stretched my hands to grap my phone which was almost falling off my high bed, but just suspended by my earpiece/headphone from smaching the floor, this earpiece had on several occasions saved my phone from imminent destruction, so i guess this morning it was just doing it's normal job of suspending my phone from the effect of the law of gravity. I dragged my phone up with one hand and peeped at the screen with eyes slightly open, still wondering who was disturbing the peace of my sleep, I peeped and sighed, It was "Kelechi"..... Posting is Out ooo... Was the first thing I heard from him... Hmmmm.... My heart skipped and every remainder of sleep just vanished from my eyes...

To be continued!!!...😉

Great post🔥🔥

Thanks bro ✌

Waiting for the rest of your story. I didnt know graduates now had a choice of possible posting locations.

Yea.. They now have options of four (4) prefered locations which are randomly distributed among the different regions of the country. However, those options are not binding meaning you can still be posted to where you never opted for.
Thanks for reading.
