THE STAGES OF HUMAN EVOLUTION

The most important stages in human probably happen in Africa. The earlist evidence of their existence have been found in East Africa at a location scattered north ans south of the equator; the evidence consists of fossils bones,Stone tools and most poignant of all,a traits of foot print preserved in the petrified surface of the mud pan.

Also fossil form of Ape such as Dryopithecus Miocene period, was also discovered in East Africa and West Europe. A later form of this Dryopithecus called proconsul was found in EAST Africa about 16-10 million years ago. Ramapithecus was found in East Africa dated to around 14-10 million years B.P. The orang-utan who is the cousin to Remapithecus diverged 10-30 million years and the gibbon diverged 12-3 million years B.P.

All primates mentions above belongs to the group called "Hominoidea". The hominoidea line gradually developed into modern man. One base of the line is represented by Australopithecus which is said to be the link between Ape and man. The fossil of this hominid have been discovered in south Africa and East Africa. The name Australopithecus means Southern Ape. This is because the first specimen was discovered at Taung in South Africa in the 1920s. The Australopithecus site in South Africa are Makapansgat,Kromdraai, Sterkfontion, Swartkrans, East Africa, Olduvai gorge, Omo valley, Turkana, Fort Ternan, Koobi-Fora, Melka bonture, Lake Borigo, Lothaga Kanopoi etc. Societies have now agreed that the split between human and Africa Ape occurred between 6-10 million years ago.

The oldest Australopithecus ever found was from the site of Lothagam in East Africa date to 5 million years ago.

The Australopithecus can be divided into three (3)

i. Australopithecus-Africa-(small)

ii. Australopithecus-Robusts (paranthropus) (medium)

iii. Australopithecus-Boisei Zinjanthropus (big)

To be continue tomorrow, stay calm and have a wonderful day ahead.
