RE: Tips for Young Inventors

Evaluate your idea

If you have an idea about making a product, you should evaluate it first to see if it’s viable and if it’s worth your time.

You should ask yourself if your idea helps to solve a specific problem, and if it does, then you should start thinking about how to make it come to life.

But you have to do a quick search to see if your idea is unique or if someone else has already thought about it and had invented it.

Do some research

You can start researching on how to turn your idea into a product, and you can get inspiration from some of the most notable investors of all time. This will help you spark your interest and develop problem-solving creativity.

Write all of your thoughts in a notebook, so you can later check them and see how you improve your invention.

Sketch your product

Once you know how your product is going to look, you have to sketch to see all the details you want to include and to see if you’re happy with the design.

With this information, you’ll know the supplies you’ll need to manufacture it, so you can create your prototype.

Build your prototype

Make a list of everything you’ll need and start building your product. It’s better if you ask for help from your parents or to someone who has experience building and using special tools.

You can go to a workshop at your school, or start creating your workshop at home if you’re planning to make more inventions come to life.

Test your prototype

Once your product is done, you have to carry out the necessary tests to see if it works correctly or if you have to modify something or add any improvement.

Keep in mind that your prototype will help you solve all the problems or difficulties with your invention so you can have an excellent final result.

The patent process

When you finishing testing your prototype and modifying all the details, you’ll have your final product, which you’re going to distribute.

It’s advisable to patent your invention, so you can protect it and prevent others from stealing the product you have come up to. This might be a long process, but it’s worth it because you’ll have a legal document that proves the invention is yours. You may need to consult with a lawyer or invention expert for this part.

Market your product

There are several ways in which you can market your product and reach your potential customers.

You can look for investors or collaborators who can help you with the mass production of your invention, and in return, they’ll get profit from your sales.

You can also participate in an inventor challenge competition where you can show your invention and get the funding you need.
