India's largest search engine, Google doodle honours P C Mahalanobis, a Plan Man, by celebrating his 125th birthday.
He was born on 29 Jun 1893, Calcutta, Bengal, India. He studied in anthropometry in India and became an applied statistician. He is remembered for the distance of Mahalanobis, a statistical measure, and for being one of the members of the first Planning Commission of Free India. He contributed to the design of large-scale surveys.
On 28th June 1972, at the age of 78, he died. Even in his last days of life, he was dedicated towards his research and duties as the Secretary and Director of the Indian Statistical Institute.
