What's different with Steem is that users will be able to earn some money tokens by publishing their content.
To me, earning money for "free" is utopia. People should be willing to invest "a bit", meaning buy some STEEM and power them up as this will enable them to transact on the blockchain.
The best solution is indeed to provide them with sponsorship by delegating a few SP, so they are able to get started.
Delegation is cool because you keep ownership of your STEEM. Shall you sponsor a lame duck, you are still able to remove your delegation.
