What tags are most popular and most profitable? This question depends on which period you are looking at. The most profitable tag three months may be the 10th today. Yesterday's news won't do in this game!
In this post, I look at the most popular and profitable tags in the latest 4 days of my dataset (up to 16th June).
Content is obviously what determines an articles popularity but positioning your article in the most relevant and frequently visited thread is important too and can make a big difference.
The tables below show a few different pieces of information:
- What tags are most popular i.e. Where is all the traffic? The popularity of tags is measured by the number of daily posts.
Popularity is good to an extent, however, an excellent post can get lost in a busy period so it's also important to choose 5 relevant tags that will ensure your article is seen by 1) many people and 2) the right people.
- What tags are most profitable?
I have included 2 measures of profitability: 1) the average author payout per post and 2) the middle payout per post. The latter is useful when a very large payout can bring up the average and mislead the profitability of a tag.
- Other metrics. I've included some other useful information such as the number of posts per day and hour.
Here are the results. For the second table, I've only included tags with at least 20 posts over the 4 day period.
Table 1: Latest Most Popular Tags
Table 2: Latest Highest Paid Tags

It is important to know what a label says, we guide it in many things.
Is this something that you will doing on a regular basis? As a minnow and my freshness on the platform this is gives a nice overview of what the community is currently interested in and where I fit in on the grand scheme of things. Thank you for gathering and publishing this.
Thank you, I was curious which tags where the most viewed.
Happy Wednesday!
thank you for the great post. Rather than posting around like a headless chicken, we know how to target our post that truly matters!
I appreciate this, but I don't want to use tags that do not apply either. How do we get new categories created? I'm working to get residentialsecurity introduced to Steemit. We want new content that is valuable to all people here, right? Is there some process that is followed, or is it just driven by demand and how often the tag is used? Thanks in advance!
Good post. It's important that people actually use relevant tags for their posts, not just randomly choosing ones they think will get the most upvotes.
Great post. Gave me some ideas for future posts. Thanks :)
Really awesome charts! thank you!
I'm a newb, what does kr stand for?? Aint what is chainbb?
