Dear Hive community, dear Ukrainian family,

Friends of mine are offering a bedroom in their lovely home in The Hague, The Netherlands. They are amazing people and are generous, friendly, and I can personally vouch for them to receive you with open arms.

If you need a safe place to stay for a while please get in touch with me so I can get you in touch with them. You can reach me via the comment section, via Telegram (@soyrosa), or via Discord (soyrosa#1544, send a friend request), so we can quickly set up a way to communicate.

I'm not going to make this a long post, read their own invitation below so you can see if this is a match for your needs.

Good luck & Stay safe,
Rosa

About the room and our house:

We have a guestroom (10m2) available in our home for 1 person to sleep and use as their personal space, and sharing the rest of our house and facilities (bathroom, kitchen, living room, terrace, etc) with us. You are very welcome to join us for meals, but if you prefer to make your own food and/or keep to yourself that is absolutely fine too; we are happiest when you feel you can choose to do what’s right for your well-being.

Our home is LGBTQ+ friendly (because I am queer myself, we will only host people who are respectful of LGBTQ+ people) and is located in a very multicultural neighbourhood, in the heart of one of the largest cities in the country. We have no car ourselves, because public transport here is very good and affordable. If we need a car to help out we can always ask and borrow one from friends or family.

The guestroom has a large bed, a small couch, a closet and a large window. It has no desk but there are two tables in the rest of the house to use as a desk/workspace. There is no tv in the guestroom, but there is of course wifi in the guestroom and everywhere else in the house. There is a TV in the living room.

Because our house has two tall stairs it is not suitable for people who have difficulty climbing stairs. Because we have three (very friendly and cuddly) cats it is not suitable for people who are (very) allergic to cats.

Although our house is in the center of town, it is a very calm, relaxing space. We have no garden but a small patio and a roof terrace to enjoy the outside and there are public parks nearby.

Our home is where we find peace, relaxation and joy, and we want to offer the same space/feeling to someone in need.

About us:

My name is Marleen (woman, 35 year): I work part time as a restaurant cook and am an artist, making clothing and objects from raw wool and silk, felt, fabrics, paper, leather, etc. I've made many different things (wedding dresses, hand bound books, scarfs, stuffed toys, and many more). I never make the same thing twice because I always create something unique and special for a specific person. If our guest enjoys felting, spinning, sewing, crafting, etc.: I have a small atelier at home with a sewing machine, a spinning wheel and lots of other tools and supplies that I can share with you as well. I enjoy cooking for others and making big amounts of food to put in the freezer and give to friends and family.

I’ve been together with Wouter (man, 40 years) for many years.
He works as a consultant; sometimes he works from our home, sometimes at the office. He enjoys cycling, gaming and wood working.

Together we enjoy playing board games, watching rugby and spending time with friends and family with good food and good conversations.

If you want to, you are of course also welcome to join us when people come to visit. Although non of us speak Ukrainian (yet), we and almost all our friends and family are fluent in English and will happily welcome you to the conversation.

I am living in Lithuania, if you know any Ukrainians need any helps in Siauliai city of Lithuania, please contact me. I can find a place for 01 family of 4 people to stay and I also provide free fresh meals!

Thank you for offering a place to stay @alexbb9700! <3 I will share on Twitter as well, who knows who reads and needs it <3

Thanks, I shared all info on my twitter and to all my friends in Lithuania too!

Super! I'll find you on twitter for a retweet.

Thanks Rosa, very kind of you (and your friends). It´s important that we all do what we can to help the people of Ukraine. Both, the war refugees as well as the brave folks who stayed in Ukraine to fight for their country and freedom. Glory to Ukraine!

@tipu curate

I honestly wish I could do more but don’t know where to start. I don’t have a house with extra bedroom or a car to pick up people from Poland for example. But if I can connect someone in need for shelter to my dear friends who I know will provide a true safe space it would be something.

Hope you’re well @phortun!

Any action counts, any effort matters. I´m currently living in Poland, the country where the largest numbers of the refugees pour into these days so it´s very emotional for us. I even got to travel with hundreds of them on the same train. Extremely emotional experiences...

Really! That must have been incredibly emotional indeed, wow. It's in times like these where we all have to do our 'bit', indeed. Why are you living in Poland currently?

It was.

We picked Poland as our temporary base to ride out the covid pandemic. Traveling to more exotic destinations was extremely difficult and in my Czech homeland, the restrictions were much stricter than here in Poland. That´s why. And yeah, we are still here. But Krakow is beautiful, as you know yourself from the HiveFest ;)

Oh my, what an impressive post and story to share. You won't ever forget that journey, and no-one should.

I do love Krakow, and hope it's a safe base for you and many Ukraine refugees trying to find some shelter.

If you personally get in touch with someone who wants to try their luck in the home I posted about please let me know.

Take care @phortun! Sorry I missed so much of your writings, I've been in a bubble in Portugal lately, keeping up with the news but not much else.

No worries Rosa, enjoy your Portuguese adventure and all those pasteis de nata (we just got some today in the Cafe Lisboa here in Krakow, we fell in love with this sweet awesomeness when living on the Azores).

Yeah, we have been very comfortable here and I am sure all those refugees who will settle down here will like the city too. It´s beautiful and very friendly, the solidarity of the locals is just incredible...

You are very kind, thank you very much for the help!

Just hoping to connect someone in need with someone who wants to help! Wish there was more I knew I could do.

This is such a kind gesture!

It's a long shot as it's probably so much harder to get here than some other countries closer to Ukraine willing to help, but who knows! My friends really would love to help and this is how they can <3

It is a leap to the unknown and God only knows how difficult it must be to have to leave everything behind and find the courage to go to another country for who knows how long and build a new life. I surely hope that many will succeed because waking up in the middle of a crisis after you worked a lifetime to build yourself up is tough. Really tough. I can only try to imagine how it must feel....

This is so nice to see people all over the world reaching out to help people from the Ukraine fleeing war.

Good on you for spreading this offer further afield using hive Rosa 🙂

The only person I know of who is on hive who is fleeing the Ukraine is @priyanarc
I think I saw on Twitter the other day that she had reached Poland, but this is no guarantee that she is safe wandering the world after losing everything she had built in the Ukraine.

Perhaps she might see this post with the tag and if she's heading toward the Netherlands might be able to make it to The Hague.

Anyway, I hope you are well. Hugs from me.
