The company will also suffer massive attacks from competitors, especially from the Epic Games Store, but Steam still seems to enjoy great well being as shown by the record of registered users with a trillion accounts announced in the last few hours. As one of the pioneers of digital distribution, Steam was brought to market in 2003 almost 16 years ago. Apparently, it has reached in recent hours the milliard of registered users, even if the data are not yet official and Valve has not released them. The information comes from Steam ID Finder, one of a number of unofficial satellites which deal with Steamand and carefully analyze its data. In particular, this provides an updated database and various related statistics on registered Steam accounts. Sensitive and personal data are obviously not published, and therefore all is masked with anonymous names. But apparently the "amusedsilentdragonfly" account recorded on 28 April is the one billionth Steam account. Note, every account corresponds to one individual user, indeed many users have multiple accounts, which means that the figure should not be regarded as equal to one billion players. As far as active users are concerned, we reach 90 million per month, while a maximum of 16 million players have been registered at the same time. We are waiting for that eventual Steam confirmation, although Valve does not appear particularly interested in the events on this front.
