Steemit Alexa rank still not right

in #stee6 years ago (edited)

I keep an eye on the available stats to see how the Steem platform is doing. One of these is the Alexa rank for the Steemit site. That is still the biggest front end by far, but the visitor numbers seemed to be falling for a while. If you use Hypestat you can see details by country and this has been missing some big ones such as Japan, Germany, Spain and UK that were in the top few before. I have no idea why this is as pages for other sites show them.

Hypestat

I have checked on other Steem sites. Dtube is on the rise. Over 40% of visitors appear to come from the US, which seems high. But then for Steempeak Myanmar is top, just ahead of the US with those two accounting for most visits. I think these numbers are not totally reflective of reality.

Another source of statistics is @Stateofthedapps which looks at actual blockchain data rather than relying on people running browser extensions. Steemit was top there for ages, but now it is Cosmochain, which seems to be all about beauty products and uses the Klaytn platform. It is only a few hundred users ahead of Steemit and we ought to be able to reclaim the top spot.

State of the Dapps

Steempeak is way down on that chart, but then it uses some algorithm that does not just depend on user numbers.

Overall Steem is a pretty small platform with just thousands of active users and not too much growth. So far the latest hardforks have not affected that much, but then I have seen very little press about it.

It seems to be up to we users to get people talking about Steem on other social media. I posted about a band I like yesterday on Twitter and noticed they had used one of my pictures on their Facebook fan page, so they did look. I am okay with that. Just bringing a band with a few hundred fans to Steem could boost the activity considerably. We need people who are prepared to invest some time in a new platform which may not pay much to start with, unless the big accounts rush to support them. We need a range of content and not just posts about crypto. That audience is very limited.

Maybe we will get Steem communities this year and that will help. I wonder if there will be a big update to coincide with Steemfest.

We shall see...

I posted this through the eSteem mobile app and it truncated all the tags. Cannot change the first one.

Steem is taking time to settle, not sure if HF affected many, most who have decided to stay are happy to continue.

Massive move has been made trying to spread to other platforms especially on Twitter.

Communities are where most support is happening between members and platforms, small in number, big enthusiasm.

Because steemit was never showed improvement in design and UI wise to hold users to use it. It's need mobile app these days because most of the members post using mobile. @partiko and @esteem apps done great, even @steempeak doing great pulling all the features at one place. Steemit dealing with bigger tasks related to the steem than its own site.

The Steemit team have said they want to focus on the blockchain back end and let others do the user interfaces. Steempeak is one of the best. Unfortunately Partiko is not being worked on recently. eSteem has potential, but I find the mobile app a bit clunky. I may post some thoughts about it soon. We have some great developers working on apps/dapps, but they need our support.

Yeah, agreed and worrying about partiko. It's such a smooth app, I loved every thing about it. Esteem is a bit messy and sometimes it's freezes.

There's another problem: I'm guessing a disproportionate number of Steemians are using Brave and other ad blocking solutions which cause havoc with web stats.

I would love to see any of the front ends surface some kind of page count view for posts, obviously this would be all over the show but comparisons between sites might then give us some better ideas.

Steemit did show views before, but I think it was decided the numbers were not reliable. Any service like Alexa is limited in what they can measure. The best source of stats would be from the site owners who will have full logs, but it's up to them to release those.

I do get a little anxious recording the Alexa and Hypestat figures for the Steem News posts each day.

I have started including the SteemPeak data as well now which paints a rosier picture.

It would be good to get sight of fuller and more reliable figures for the steem family sites. Difficult to know the overall picture at present with all the many new interfaces, tribes etc.

It may be worth reaching out to the site admins to see if they will share some data with you

Steem is garbage. Censorship, bots, useless info, whales abuse of power. This site won’t go anywhere.

Very discouraging comment but this comment only affect loosers... sorry.

Sounds like a sore loser. It's what you make it.

Lol so why is this person here though? I don't get it there are so many other sites you can use, why sit here bitch and be miserable

They are posting with no engagement. Steem takes some work to get results. I want to see it grow so the whales have less influence.

There is really no way of knowing how far steemit reaches anymore with all the dapps and mobile apps running on it now. At least steemit inc are making some decent income on their ads hopefully its enough to cover their expenses. Hope it will turn out to be the same for tribes if we can run more profitable businesses on the chain, all the better

You can add yup the numbers for the various sites that do Steem, but app/dapp stats would be harder to measure. We need those behind the services to tell us
