23rd January, 2018
I am pretty excited about the open workshop that will be taking place. When I first attempted steemit as introduced by @perennial the only thing in my mind was to assist my friends in earning some extra income and also show a pathway to my students as an alternative. I never could have anticipated that a short 2 months, I will be introducing the Steem Blockchain to people that have been in this industry longer than me and having contributed far more to the industry than me. I felt so humbled by the events that has unfolded.
In the next few days, I will be announcing the itinerary for the event and hopefully everyone will come in drones to support the event.
My students learning from the Master Mr. Tarzidi a long serving member of the cartoon industry.
The images were taken during the ongoing cartoon event that is currently taking place in the National Museum and Malaysian Cartoon and Comic House, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Here the stalwarts of the industry is giving pointers to my students. We have Mr. Zainal Buang Hussein who is one of the pioneer of the longest and most successful cartoon print called Gila-Gila, Mr. Jaafar Taib the owner and founder of the Gila-Gila magazine, Datuk Lat (my idol) and Mr. Mishar (The creative person who initiated Gila-Gila).
Members of the Malaysian cartoon and comic industry.
This man is the inspiration to many. Mr. Jaafar Taib. He has always dispense good advice to us when I was just a teenager dabbling in arts. Even after I graduated, this advice still holds true till today. Here are a few of his gems that he has shared with us.
Be proud of your heritage and tradition. He told us that this is what made us very special in our own ways and we must take all effort to reflect our heritage and tradition in our art. It is okay and cool to adopt manga style or do a Peanut like drawing, but the identity of being Malaysian is what sets us apart.
He also advice us to take pride in mother nature and if we have such gift, we should use it to spread awareness on conservation. Awareness can be in any form and it can even be in the form of a comic joke or realism drawing. For those who are unaware, Mr. Jaafar Taib is not only a cartoonist but he paints very majestic animals in the wild by using watercolour and the picture will seem to have a life of its own. That is how talented this giant of our industry is.

Our Event
Our event on the 23rd will have a few purpose. The main purpose is to tell our community that although the industry looks bleak, there is a saving grace in the Steem Blockchain that will give artists a platform to stand tall again. The other purpose is to introduce our community #steem-cartoon and to demonstrate how this platform works in real time.
Hope to see you guys there...
