So the answer to the most commonly asked question is Yes and No! It depends on the following:
- The Mining Equipment being used
- Utility Charges (Electricity)
- Size of operation
If you are using Antminer S7, your electricity charges have to be low to make it worth while since the current exchange rate is disappointing to say the least. It may be a while (6-12 months) before the price rises above $1000 USD to make worth mining using old ASICs. The best equipment to use available for the masses is the Antminer S9.
I know many private people which have mined bitcoin and all ended it in 2014 ;-)
If you can invest that money in the currency and not the equipment its possible the equipment wont turn a profit but the price might triple
