So the year is ending, i have been here since very long time but never been too active.
Yet im browsing when im in school and voting with my hands.
Here is some thoughts of mine among with questions.
Can you make it just from quality content?
Theres loads of users here but if we browse the trending or hot pages - usualle we see the same names. Since STEEM added feature of "views" on post if we look, views are around 10% of the votes number.
Shortly - the bots are voting. But most of the bots do not have AI to go for "popular posts" they go by authors. Speaking shortly - same authors are added to bots and any of their posts are getting hot.
Of course there is manual voters and great projects like @curie or @robinhoodwhale but mostly if they dont notice you - you have no chance.
If you spend time writing a good post, then nobody sees it or vote on it - you get upset and quit.
Right now HOT:
Todays Trending:
Only bots can make money on STEEM now?
So you can make money two ways. Curating (voting on content) or making the conent.
Voting - you have to sit all the time, read things and vote in right times (25-30 minutes is the best). Sounds like a job for machine and still you have to sleep. So bots win.
Now in the trending usualy we see posts that possibly were made by bots. Charts, Sports and such vs content from users with level 70 which is unlikely to get.
So normal user without coding knowledge and with decent writign skills wont make it anyways because nobody will notice him.
Pay your way!
Of course there is 3rd gate. You can grab BTC and then buy Steem Power and Promotion for your posts. And i assume this would work. If you become a whale and your posts get few cents other whales may notice you. If you promote post - users will notice you.
After few promoted posts you may have initial followers. Yet is buying your status on social network a really good idea?
Where we heading ?
To be clear im not speaking out of greed or so. I just think for STEEM to raise we need new users and its unlikely any of them will come here and stick, since they will feel their work is useless.
Nothign worse than coming, spending hour or two writing a post and then getting no views nor votes.
Of course we can invite here only bloggers who have audience and vote them up so they make money.. But we did that already and it just ended with them dumping or people making fake accounts to dump.
So whats the solution?
I dont know, possibly projects manual checking new stuff should get extra incentives from STEEM pool. Because if its keeps going how it is - STEEM will be just a small circle jerk.
It's like being a musician. You can't can't expect to make a fortune without first practicing , then playing to empty rooms for tips , then when the word spread how good you are people will tell there friends and then eventually you might hit the big time.
Thanks, interesting
If you want to be read, you have to post. If you post, you can collect Steem. If your content is thought to be good and if it satisfies a market need, you will gain readers, which means that you will get manual votes and also that you will be put on the lists that voting bots use.
Like anything, though, it takes a little work and effort. Just keep at it!
Thanks man for even noticing the post.
Still if somebody joins his first posts will be missed if he has no friends. Even if they are good
That does tend to be true. That's why it helps to join with a friend. That isn't always possible, though, and that doesn't necessarily help very much.
For beginners, making connections through Steemitchat and through comments is very important. And like I said before, consistent posting about something that the market is looking for.
@dragarousa has some helpful posts about being a successful writer. Check out some of his posts.
It takes time to build an audience. If, like me, you are starting off as a newbie, then concentrate on making posts that contain things that are of interest to you. Additionally, make a real effort to check spelling and grammar. Readers, be they whales, minnows, or trouts, will want to see some evidence of good editing.
Steemit is not intended as a quick way to riches, the whole concept is designed with producing quality content in mind. Read the Steemit White Paper to understand the way the payout system is constructed. It's a genuine attempt at giving quality, audience appreciated, content a chance to be valued. True, people will try to game the system in one form or another, but it is still early days for Steemit. As the user base grows, and the readership expands, people will become more thoughtful in their voting. Your readership will expand if what you write is interesting.
Even if your writing does not catch the interest of the "Whales", it will build an audience throughs its own value.

Im not even speaking of myself but rather for new people here.
You actually nod - new users need to first get audience then post. So first good post wont be noticed at all.
You need to post BEFORE you can build an audience. It takes time and effort. People can hardly judge your writing skills, and the quality of content, unless they have read some of your work.
Different communities are developing in response to different interests. Just post something that you found interesting enough to be worth writing about. Or post some of your own artwork, be it paintings, photography, ceramics or whatever. Work on building credibility amongst readers. You will build an audience that way. Forget trying to game the system. In the end the only thing that will bring success and self-esteem is producing quality content.

Hi @andzzz, I just stopped back to let you know your post was one of my favourite reads today and I included it in my Steemit Ramble. You can read what I wrote about your post here.
Thanks man, brilliant idea :)
Thats how i got here :_)
Did you know you have more chance of being recognize, and getting rewarded now, then before, like July or August? There were more people on then, and your posts would have been even harder to find. I started in August, and I got noticed by certain people because of the type of content I write about. Check my first posts to see what I mean.
Did you write for Facebook? Or a blog? I did, and for free. Isn't the possibility, than you will make $0.01 from posting, even better than not making anything by posting on another site? When I joined and make $0.00 for my first post, I still saw how better it was than FB, because even on FB no one was paying attention to what I wrote. On Steemit, people actually read it! LOL. I win with people reading, and I win with making rewards. It takes time, and what you post about matters.
Good luck!
Thanks, its true 1 cent is better than zero :)
small and new users can most definitely establish themselves on here and now is the time to do so. Like anything new, it takes persistence and perseverance. You also need to be constantly improving how you write and present your posts. Writing is a craft, if you want to succeed you have to write and refine your writing. Post, Post and post some more. Follow others, comment on posts, join the chats. It's like any other social network, the more you participate, the stronger you grow.
I have two accounts and both are decent. I am far from popular but I broke the +100 votes barrier enough. My goal is to collaborate more on Steemit so this is still a work in progress.
Still, it's better than the social media platforms out there that don't give incentives. I think a tip here would be to provide content to the community without expecting something in return. Another is to create content which the authors would love to share (something personal) - it would be easier, and then apply extra touches to it (i.e. making a good title, adding more photos, playing with Markdown Styles, etc) to make it more attractive.

Yeah the view and the vote counters are something interesting . It baffled my mind when i first saw it , views are half the votes, such a shame i thought.
I am missing that bigger part in Steemit , although there are a lot of people it doesn't seem that way, at best there are small communities forming , apart from the mainstream (sports, such) where I don't really figure in.
When I was thinking about the issue I got to the realization that probably some bubbles will form and stay until something changes , I'm kind of sad that Steem isn't the perfect place to get into deep conversations ,learn from quality sources and open and share for your hearts content , while even making income in the process , just because you are a part of a helping community that has the best interests of everyone inside , but maybe we can make it happen :) !
I think everything is in our hands , if we develop an pay attention to the interesting and important topics , share that among ourselves and support each other day by day we can make something truly helpful and supportive.
One thing that I don't like in this platform is the fact that its like a marketplace of ideas , that expire for some reason. You only make the "cash" during the first day and week , afterwards , even if the subject is interesting , it just disappears to new people. Its a shame that the platform is making money only on interest and activity.
Hope some substantial projects spring from this place it really seems like a new platform that something unique to bring , Happy New Year ! ! ! : )
