steemit.com open source: An Idea, a proposal, and a ton of questions

in #steem8 years ago

I borrowed this picture, the site I borrowed it from gave credit back to steemit but am unable to find original post. So thank you mystery contributor!

Okay. I have been working on this post for awhile but don't have the techno jargon to ask what I want. So I'm just spitting this out as me.

As I understand from reading posts around the date steemit.com had it's open source made available on github, and following the comments (man you pick up a ton from comments!!)... Creating a new website would allow you to edit certain aspects of the appearance, without affecting at all it's connection to the blockchain or subsequent rewards. Is that way off?

I am assuming not, I am new to this and learning on the fly, but it's what I've read and seen no statements to contradict. So here is what I am asking. Actually let me paste part of my post in response to someone which tells it for me..

One thing I am waiting for is to see how open source being released can change things. I am extremely naive about it, but I am hoping that it may make for sites which cater to only specific tags. In my head I see what I have always done (gaming, total nerd) posted on a tag for clan members and others playing the game where they are getting the content/information/communication they want... without any of the $ showing up. Just people being people and earning tiny equity into something that WILL CONTINUE TO GROW.

In my head this is a great way for steemit to grow and stop attracting as much of the crowd drawn for the fast buck. Like the picture I see sites branching off, and yet never disconnected. I have played a lot of games over time. All of them have pretty huge networking outside the games themselves for content sharing, tips/tricks or selling of virtual items within the game. Using a popular game for name recognition only, I imagine a site could be built for a clan/group from World of Warcraft. Could I create a site that uses the steemit platform but filters out from view tags not relevant to WoW? So if I as a clan leader made a site with the open source, am I able to make it SPECIFIC to the group I promote it to? When they're logging in what they're seeing is content that is immediately relevant to them. Sharing in discussions, comments, trolling...... all part of what happens every day on message boards already! And when posting, being limited on tags, prehaps choosing from WoWGeneral, WoWTactics, WoWSales etc etc...

It's just me trying to think how it might be used to bring in an entire group of people that use sites like this, but make it able to be fully relevant to the subject they come for, while at same time promoting the steemit blockchain. These would be active users, daily in most cases, that are coming to discuss what they love to discuss and not driven by the $ aspect of it.

I am sure most of us know a group we have been involved in that could appreciate this kind of setup. My biannual family reunions have a facebook group page that is really just members of the family dropping notes, posting comments, just keeping in touch with each other without having to sift through everything else to find it. I see it as a way to grow the site, without growing crazy expectations about the platform.

I am waiting for you to tell me. Am I wrong?

Nice work dude, keep it on.

Thanks, still finding my voice. Just thinking this would help with that

We motivated by its own goals to work together as a team. Since it is a self-employed, you can choose when, where and with whom you want to collaborate. It is simply a free service that provides the user with a more defensive.

Well said. I want to collaborate with the current people, just not sure I have content for the current people lol

NOt sure if I understand correctly but you like that Steemit is open source? Me too, this is great. The blockchain is transparent, and having the whole steemit.com open-source is great too. This means outsiders can also submit code and help built it through 'Git' pull requests.

Sorry this got lost and hopefully still finds you. I was more curious if basically the interface graphics can be changed. I thank you for answer and sorry I neglected it
