So Steem was presented to me originally as a social media platform, and while there are many personal articles written, I don't personally feel like it has yet reach social media status.
For me, part of an effective social media platform is that you can just share about your day or even just a quick blurb and people respond to it.
So far my experience on steemit.com has been that really well written articles are usually rewarded here but just small posts about my day are ignored. Even more than that, one of the awesome things on platforms like Twitter or Facebook is that I can just post a question and people will respond to it.
So far when I have tried to make similar posts on steemit, they are ignored and I get no response from the community. So this is a cry out to the steemit community to not just seek after profits here but to seek connection with people. If we are going to promote steem as a social media platform, we need to be seeking to build relationships and make connections with new people in the process.
I admit I have been guilty of just seeking after trying to make a profit on this platform and have not done a good job of getting on here for the people I have met. So for that I apologise and want to do better.
I hope to make some true friends on Steem in the future.
I completely agree about making this more social. I do enjoy that the bigger posts get rewarded, and the little spammy type posts are ignored.
I did put out a question to to the community today, and I got no response. And it was a very sincere question asking for help via information. :). So, I know what you are saying about it needing to be more social, and creating deeper connections with people. :).
You have made a keen and wonderful observation. Yea steemit.com is supposed to be a social platform just like facenook. But it does appear that people are more interested in upvotes and other forms of pecunary advantages rather than connect with people. Some discussion topic when you drop them are often ignored. Wonderful observation. You could visit my blog and read some of my articles fictional though @orishtimothy
Hey there! I completely understand what you mean. It was pitched to me the same way.
I see this platform more like reddit or tumblr. I think it has a long way to go, but theres definitely a sense of community and building a following based on what you post or repost. Just with the added bonus of earning some money. I think it also depends on what your posting about, some tags arent super popular yet, so it might go unseen in that instance. But in saying that, I dont think you shouldn't post what you want. At least thats what I am doing anyway :P All the best on the adventure, I hope it turns out to be what you hoped!
Thanks for the input in this. I think you nailed it on the head. I feel a struggle between posting what I want, and posting what would be popular. In a lot of ways I feel like just posting about my day like I would on Facebook or Twitter will be completely ignored. But I desire this to be a place where all types of posts are rewarded, not just the kind of journalist quality.
Yeah, as I said, I think as steemit grows, a shorter more personal update will become more common like Facebook and twitter.
The beauty is that there's so much room to grow through this platform and we are here to see it from the start!
