RE: Thoughts on steem

in #steem6 years ago

The thing to remember is that Steem is social media, and social media will always be a shitshow to one extent or another. That being said, I love Steemit, it's my favorite social media and I have no intention of going anywhere.

Expecting me to care about the free speech rights of the KKK is the stupidest thing I have heard in months. Should I respect the rights of Jihadists to post here too? No one seems to mind when Muslim terrorist recruiters get their sites shut down, only when it is white right wing extremists is the issue of free speech brought up. It seems like the exact same thing to me.

I must most respectfully say "Bullshit!" to this. If you get to pick and choose whose rights to respect, what expectation do you have of yours being respected? Freedom of speech is an absolute, either you have it or you don't. I detest those you mention as much as you do but they have the same rights as you or I, or else nobody has any.

Freedom of speech is not freedom from consequence however, just because they can say it doesn't mean it shouldn't be greeted with hostility and disdain and downvoted/flagged into oblivion. As long as you can buy into Steem we can't stop them but we can make it economically unpalatable if enough people care to take action.

Flagging is the consequence. You said ignorant shit and it got downvoted
