Owning at least a realistic BB gun that fires plastic pellets was one of the things I wanted to do before but I was discouraged by my brother telling me that it was just a waste of money. SO a bit of few years later when my father went home from abroad he gave me a gold necklace, with all my other siblings too actually.
At that time I had a bit of money with me but not enough to buy me a pellet gun. So I just decided to pawn the necklace and made a bit of money out of it. After that I had an ample amount of money to purchase myself a nice and surprisingly accurate gun. I was so delighted and happy after buying it.
Of course I have to shoot it and I had a great time of doing it inside our backyard. The first thing that I did was to target shoot cans, tires, and whatever I wanted to shoot at. There was a fruiting tree near me so I just sometimes shoot the fruits thereof too as well as the birds that often visited it.
Then I have learned of sighting it too so that I could put a pellet in or at least near my target. I did killed a lot of rat with it too as well as birds that I didn't eat because they have parasites in them in their stomachs and body cavity. So I just shoot them for sports since there are too many of them plus they could spread diseases too. So culling them makes good for the environment.
Then after sometime I found this threading tool that fits almost exactly to the rifle barrel since my kind of rifle is loaded at the end of the barrel (not the muzzle part). Then i fired it, so what that did was made my rifle's bore a bit wider. Surprisingly it didn't affect my rifle's accuracy, it is still accurate which means that deep rifling grooves is not necessary for accuracy as I have experienced it myself.
My rifle is so accurate that I can fire a a tree's flower facing me at the center of the flower's petals. Doing it right makes the petals explode outwards so it is really fun to see that when it happens. Sometimes I would fire at birds sitting together and they would fall down, two birds with one pellet.
Then I also had used my rifle for spear fishing. So I just fashioned a metal with plastic on its rear end making it like a miniature missile. It then is tied to a fishing line and the line is reeled to a cylindrical plastic tube from a used shampoo bottle or something.
To load the gun with it, the projectile spear is then muzzle-loaded. You cock the rifle and then it is ready to be fired to the fish on the stream nearby when the water is stagnant and the fishes goes up to breathe some fresh air. You wait until some fish would show up and then target it and fire.
The hard part was to wait for a fish to emerge since my arms are already weak and flimsy in those years already that I seldom catch a good amount of fish through that method. I am better off putting some traps for fishes and in that way I could catch more fish than spear-fishing.
Of course it is real fun to spear fish especially if your friends have guns too which in my case we only have one gun which is mine. There are also less opportunity for me to spear fish because I am only the one with a gun plus of course my health is deteriorating already that my last gun of the same type I wasn't able to use that much and now I had given to my bother and I hope that it will serve him nicely because they live near a rice field where there are wild pigeons that he can hunt and cook.
Anyway, I could never get into that hobby of mine again because of my current bone conditions. I can't even carry myself much less with a three to four pound rifle. So It is just one of my deepest and painful frustrations and I just am telling about those fun memories where I sometimes wish that I could ever do it again.
I doubt that I could ever go back to that favorite hobby of mine due to my current body form with pain. But what I pray to God is to just heal my pain and stop my bones and joints in deteriorating even more. That will be the best thing that I have to concentrate on and maybe someday if miracle would happen again I could target shoot again.

Anyway - it sounds like you have some really nice memories of shooting your rifle. I'm sorry that you can no longer enjoy the activity. I'll bet your father wasn't happy about you selling your necklace to buy the rifle, lol. I've read some of your other posts about things you are trying on your own to help your bone density - I wish you success with that.
