Steemit is an amazing website for keeping up with current events and trends across the world, enjoying travel blogs and many more. Most importantly, it is one of the best places to get the latest info on Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.
General
In the past 6 months I have used Steemit more than traditional social media and forums, particularly because of the ease of finding knowledge/insights related to cryptocurrency all in one place (getting paid for content helps too). As the community grows, there will be plenty of valuable content created on Steemit that can't be found on other websites, in a wide spectrum of topics.
Making more with a Great Network
I think a great use case for the platform that might have some growth potential is a dedicated section for long-term natured written pieces. For example, how-to guides, books and more. Not everyone will come here to read a book, however having that section available could help make Steemit a one-stop shop for internet browsing. There is so much valuable information/expertise on crypto on this platform, and the quickest way to find it seems to be posting a set of links below a blog post - there has to be a better way!
Therefore, I have a few ideas on additional features to add a "books/guides" section to Steemit. This concept could exist in its own silo, without changing the existing Trending, New, Hot, Promoted sections. This would include an alternate monetization mechanism for this long-term section.
By the way, this is not at all a knock on the current form of content. Steemit is foremost a blogging website, so current events is a big focus. The recurring contributions of authors adds incredible value to the platform in the long-run.
Some Actionable Ideas
Here are a few ideas for a long-term natured topic section:
Dedicated button at the top for Guides, E-Books, etc. with an index/navigation.
Permit an option to extend content monetization over a period of longer than 7 days, given at a substantially reduced rate. Under the current structure, a book would have lasting value, yet could only be priced in for seven days. This would be a way for people to support larger content (such as a book/course/etc.) over a longer period of time.
An option for monetization to remain open to upvotes from guest users who navigated Steemit via external search engines (no created account associated with IP, etc.). If the expertise/content on Steemit is drawing people in to the platform, this effect should be captured somehow. (This is a more general idea which could apply to all current sections of Steemit versus just a guide section)
Perhaps someone will create a Smart Media Token (SMT) to create this type of website, as opposed to building the idea out on Steemit.
Share Your Opinion
Thank you for reading, I would love to hear your opinion:
- Is this a good (bad) idea?
- Are there better means to accomplish this idea?
- It the idea far away from the original intentions of the Steem platform?
- Is there significant re-coding?
- Are there existing alternatives to Steemit that run on the Steem blockchain that accomplish this? If so, how could Steemit be inspired by this resource for their front end?
- Should something like this be a SMT down the road?
Disclaimer: I have no intention of launching a SMT, this is not an offering of any product

I could see this. Right now with the current system, it seems very hard to make ever lasting content. I don't think it could be done any better, and could probably fulfill the purpose of the Steem blockchain.
is a good way to develop this idea I'm sure it would be an success
