So I posted an article about eSports Prize Pool and suddenly within a minute my post had 34 votes, it was suspicious so I checked out the accounts of the voters and guess what!! All of them had no post history and no steem or SBD. They only had the initial Steem Power given to them as Sign Up Bonus. My guess is that one person is handling all these accounts for reasons unknown.
After that I was trying to see some other newly created posts and the team of bots upvoted many new articles at random. The bots upvoted single articles together.

I don't know what is the purpose of these bots. I am just writing this article to inform others about this.
This is getting ridiculous we need to authenticate every account to a cell phone # so that you can only use 1 cell phone number 1 time for authentication. Bots cannot take over :( this will ruin us and the platform.
yeah this could be implemented but some legit users might leave the platform becuz of this

The problem with your idea is that you can also download an app called Burner or Sideline. Both of which give you access to additional phone numbers linked to your main phone number. You could even do this with Google Voice. Of course, there's a price to pay to have an unlimited number of phone numbers, but the investment would pay itself off if it means getting Steem payouts.
I also noticed this happened on my recent post as well...
