Know that in the fast there is something special that is not found other than in fasting. Fasting closes our relationship to Allah SWT, as He has said:
"Fasting is for me and I will reciprocate." [Saheeh Bukhari and Muslim]
This relationship is enough to indicate the high status of fasting. Just as, the Ka'bah is glorified because of him to draw closer to Him. As his statement:
"... and purify my house ..." (QS Al Hajj, 22: 26)
Really, fasting has only a good value in two significant concepts:
First: Fasting is secret deed and hidden then no one from the creature can see it. Thus riya 'can not get into it.
Second: Fasting is a tool to conquer the enemies of God. This is because the path of the enemies of God (to mislead the son of Adam) is by lust. Eating and drinking strengthens the passions.
There are many reports that indicate the merits of fasting, and all have been well known.
Sunnah-sunnah Fasting
Sahur and end it is better, hasten to break the fast and start by eating dates.
Generosity in giving also sunnah during Ramadan as do good deeds and improve goodness. This is in accordance with what Rasulullah SAW did.
Then it was learned to study the Qur'an and do I'tikaf during Ramadan especially in the last 10 days, as we increase the implementation (good deeds) in it.
In the two Sahih, 'Aisha said:
"During the last 10 days of Ramadan, the Messenger of Allah will fasten his belt (izaar), spend the night in worship, and awaken his family (for prayer)." [Sahih Bukhari and Muslim]
The scholar has explained in two views pertaining to the notion of "tightening his belt (izaar)":
First: That means keeping away from women.
Second: it is a phrase that signifies the strong motivation of the Prophet Muhammad to be diligent and continuous to perform good deeds.
They also said that the reason for his actions of the Prophet Muhammad in the last 10 nights in Ramadan is because he SAW looking for Lailatul Qadar.
A secret explanation and characteristic of fasting
There are three levels of fasting: general fasting,
special fasting, and more specific fasting
As for the general fast, then it is a refrain of hunger, thirst and genitalia from fulfilling their desires.

The special fast is to restrain yourself against sight, tongue, hands, feet, hearing and eyes, as to stop the body from committing a sin.
Then fasting is more special, it is emptying itself from its longing for the interests of the world and thinking about what keeps one from God.
From the last characteristic of the specification is that one conquers his views and guards his tongue from illicit, unloved or unbeneficial greed, as it reinforces the calmness of his limbs.
In a hadith narrated by Al Bukhari:
"Whoever does not leave a bad word and do it, God needs him to leave his food and drink."
[Saheeh al-Bukhari, Abu Daud, At-Tirmidhi and Ibnu Majaah]
Another characteristic of special fasting is that one does not fill his belly with too much food at night. Really, he ate a measurable, for necessity, the son of Adam did not fill a ship more than his stomach.
If he eats to fill it in the first part of the night, he will not be able to use himself for charity on the rest of the night. As if he ate to meet the meal, he will not be able to use himself until the afternoon (if too full). This is because eating too much leads to laziness and lethargy. Furthermore, the goal of fasting is to obliterate one's overweight in eating, because it is meant by fasting, is that one's hunger then becomes a desire in the form of charity.
