So i am an idiot but how do they know who to pay if i put a link in my post? I guess i am just overlooking a very obvious piece of the puzzle here. sorry for the dumb question.

You have to sign up as an affiliate. Once you do that, you can go into their back-end affiliate system and find links that have special codes associated with your account. Their systems allow them to track clicks on those links to give credit to the right people.
