Steemhost.com | Walkthrough for Hosts 20180531-6

Another feature of steemhost is the ability to create advertisements which would appear on steemhosted sites. These advertisements could be your own (encouraging other people to your site) or could be third party advertisements for groups outside of the steem environment but who may want to advertise here. A few months ago, I was in a discussion with another steemian and we talked about an way to raise funds for a food bank. Certainly a food bank could have a steem profile and raise public awareness and funds. The limiting factor of this is that unless a person has backing by a whale, it is hardly likely that they would raise much support. Many businesses might support a food bank by making a donation and having their names listed as a donor. Steemhost adds an additional dimension to this. If a group of people in a community become contributors, the food bank can anticipate a steady stream of content. It could become a virtual hub for a neighbourhood. The food bank could sell advertising to local businesses on this site. What they charge for advertising can be decided by the food bank (in fiat) while the cost of advertisement is based on how much they are willing to pay. As the rewards are paid in steem the host can maximize their earnings.

To create a new advertisement, on the Host menu options click on My Advertisements and then click Add New. A pop up will appear asking your you to identify the advert, the banner url (best practices has a 1024 x 90 image) the landing page url, and how much the reward would be. The current recommended value is .01 but this varies based on a number factors. The advertisement revenue is divided as a reward between 3 people. The first is used to help pay for the page views and will be used to fund future modifications to the site. The second is the host of the site. The third is the visitor to the site. If the visitor is a steemian and logged in using steemconnect, they will be rewarded with their portion of the advertising revenue. If the visitor is not logged in, the reward also goes to the host.

An important note is that the rewards will be in delegated steem power not in steem or steem dollars. One might ask why? Three roles that steemhost wants to assist in: to encourage new users to the ecosystem; is to encourage continued good content; is to support the value of steem. The first is straightforward. As the number of hosts increase, creating their own online magazines more and more users will be attracted to read content on steem.

  • Steemhost hyperlinks to either steemit.com or busy.org giving visitors an opportunity to join the community. The entire concept of paying people to read steem based content is a little interesting.
  • The concept of rewarding using delegation should be apparent that it encourages hosts and visitors to create more and better content. Steemians like @sweetsssj do not post frequently but when they do, a great deal of effort is put into each post. The only way they can benefit from the reward is to post.
  • In a similar vein, by rewarding by delegation it prevents people from just cashing out Steem/SBD. They can ride the bus but they cannot sell it. In a sense every steem purchased by advertising will be frozen out of the market... permanently held in trust.
