RE: PSA: Changes to the curation rewards in Hardfork 20

in #steem7 years ago (edited)

Ok - so this is what I was hearing about from someone else. Please let me wrap my brain around this. How do you get author rewards if you click upvote? Doesn't it have to be the checkbox? Or do you just vote like any other post? Is this cheating in any way? Faking people out that you don't vote and then voting?

I looked on the "hot" feed and see most people there self-voting.

I'm all for helping the people that vote for me and I highly can use and will use this sbd. All my wildest dreams have come true in the last week, and I really mean that. I'm in Bangkok where money goes far and I live like a pauper so it won't run out between all my various sources of cash.

Thanks to this bonanza, I will pay someone else to cut my hair for 6 usd, for one example. Normally I chop it off myself for free. We're living large over here, counting unhatched chickens, and definitely happy!

That's great that things are working out for you on Steemit, Sharon, for sure! You get author rewards whenever anyone upvotes you within the payout period (6.5 days). It can be you or anyone. The more Steem Power they have, the more they can potentially reward you, depending on the vote power they use. So anyone can vote for themselves.

There was a lot of discussion about people upvoting themselves. The big issue was that some whales weren't really writing anything of value and then just upvoting their own comments, even just a simple period or a number! They can do that 10 times a day at full power and get a good return.

But when any of us lesser Steemians upvotes ourselves, the consequences are small -- very, very small for minnows! You can upvote yourself automatically with the checkbox. But you can upvote yourself anytime within the 6.5-day payout period. If you do it automatically, you don't get any of the curation reward, because it all goes to the author that early -- but you are the author! If you vote for yourself 6 days later, then the curation rewards go up for everyone that voted for you earlier. It doesn't have any impact when you are a minnow, but as you can upvote yourself with more Steem Power, it does increase the curation rewards that go to people that upvoted you. It's not being sneaky. It's just rewarding your voters a little bit more, without any cost to you.

Hope that helps and isn't just more confusing. Enjoy your SBDs and Steem On! :D

Got it! Thank you for the explanation. I think for now, I will just leave my self-voting as is and not give myself more tasks.

I recently set up @steemdunk so that I automatically upvote certain people and now I only upvote good comments through the day. What a relief. No more checking my friends each day to see if they posted. My goal right now is more content daily! Thanks again for the good explanation. It is not easy here, but fun!

You are figuring things out, step by step, for sure! That @steemdunk looks like a good deal for minnows, especially. I'm using SteemAuto.com, myself. It also lets me schedule posts. I haven't used that part yet, but my goal right now is more content, too, and that should help. Good luck in posting every day! It's not easy being that consistent!

I've been doing good on the consistency and only hope I hold up. This price rise is a gift I have never seen in the many years of posting my message. Thanks for the tip on steemauto. Scheduling posts would really help me.

I'm so glad you came over to Steemit! It sure beats the Tsu experience. Here's to even better things for you here on Steemit in 2018!
