I think there are cases that could be made that it is already happening. Sure some of the Dapps are in the early stages but I believe there are some with the performance there.
It will be evolutionary although could be rather quick in time.
We will see how it all unfolds.
Our DPOS using Graphene is one of the blockchain eith improved performance. But that somehow reduce the decentralization using the witness system. Perhaps DAPP is not aim so solve performance issue yet. But things will getting better over time for sure.
