I have been thinking about steem lately; Steem, blogging, rewards, users I miss, those I don't, users who have dropped off and come back and those who simply disappeared into thin air...It made me think about my own efforts, persistence and energy as far as steem goes.
Since June thirteenth 2017 I have made 1,000 posts. This one is 1,001. That's a total of 702 days and 1.42 posts a day. If I add in my comments and replies to that number I've made 17,920 actions on the blockchain. Over a total of 702 days that's a comment, post or reply each and every hour I have lived since started on the blockchain. (16,848 hours at the time of writing this.) I'm not sure what other people's numbers look like however for me that's a fair amount of effort and energy...1.06 engagements with the blockchain each hour of my life since 13 June 2017!
I use the word energy because writing a post each day, responding to replies, well, it all takes energy, a lot of energy. I know my posts are not regarded amongst the best on the platform however I try to write well, that is, with interest, correct spelling and punctuation and whilst my topics may not always interest everyone I think the few people who read them find some value occasionally. I hope anyway.
I don't struggle too hard to find something to write about, sure I get bogged down like other's, however usually I find something to say. On those occasions I struggle to get something down on paper then I move on and do something else knowing that beating my head on brick wall, even a figurative one, is not going to get me very far. So, I tend to find something to write about without any real difficulty which is probably why my feed is so varied. Maybe I've just got a lot to say?
I've recently tried to engage with some new users offering a little steem power delegation. I did so hoping to make things a little easier for a few people and to locate some great accounts to follow. Over my time I've come across a few really great people and enjoyed engaging with them, some I still do now, but also many of those have simply disappeared for some reason or another. Their prerogative of course, but that doesn't mean I can't lament their loss right? Put simply, I miss engaging with some of them. But they are gone and are now largely out of my mind. A couple have come back, shit-posted a bit and then gone again...I never bothered to re-engage.
I see us (people) like batteries to some degree. We deplete. Our energy levels, motivation, and drive all wane at some stage. Some manage that energy loss better than others I guess, the loss and the recharge phase. I tend to be pretty good at managing my time, energy, motivation and positivity which I think combine to help me keep up my work-rate in as far as work, personal life and of course blogging here as well. So I'd have to say my energy levels are pretty good.
I believe I'm lucky in that way, the ability to balance each aspect of my life, weight it this way or that depending on my needs. My skills gained throughout life serve me well I suppose. There's no secret to it either; It all just comes down to acquired skills being deployed when and where required however there's one thing that has always underlined everything I have done...And that's knowing my why. The reason behind doing anything. Everything. I haven't always known it however once introduced to the concept I never looked back. The knowledge of why, my understanding of my why, has been the greatest motivator I have ever had and burning energy towards that why has never seemed difficult.
So, to conclude...Well, just do whatever it is you want to. It's not for me, or anyone else, to tell people what to do, not here on the blockchain certainly. I guess just a suggestion though...In life we will usually generate results commensurate to our efforts, we receive results based on the efforts we expend I mean. I think the same could be said for steem also. Sure a lot of people gain rewards just by being a link within a circle-jerk however in the main one must apply effort and expend a certain amount of energy to get anywhere. It's just the way it is.
I am hoping steem comes to something as I've invested a lot of energy so far with more to come. I'm not going to be destitute if it doesn't though. I mean I have a great job, own a successful business and am as smart with my money as I can be, however wouldn't it be a nice reward for my efforts here, to see steem go up to $25USD...Now wouldn't that be a nice little reward for my efforts...And yours as well of course.
Design and create your ideal life, don't live it by default

I know the battery feeling, and for the moment I am sometimes feeling depleted and finding it harder to find subjects to write about. I guess also this writers block will pass so I guess that for now I have to buy more steem instead AND write a bit less for now
It happens to everyone. I mean, right now, I'm crafting a post around a fire in the hills near my house and an alien spacecraft...Somehow I'll bring them together...Not sure though. Clutching at straws for topics much? Lol. 🤣

well I love me some sci fi... tell us a story my friend
All the people who vanished would come back if steem hit 5 bucks again
Well most people, maybe. I came back when market had hit the bottom and i had a chance to buy decent amount of steem.
I guess everyone has different strategies and buying steem is one of them.
Naturally...And would want to pick up where they left off...They be like..."Oh hi there, I'm back to rape the reward pool so give me your 100% vote..."
Love this post. My computer is dying so forgive the crappy comment
Oh thanks @whatsup ...Any comment I get on my blog is welcome, so I don't think yours is crappy. I appreciate you appreciating my post. Appreciation all round!
I feel your pain re: computer-death-throe's issue...I think mine's starting to plan its own demise...
Yeah, I need a new one. When I bought this one I told myself Steem was going to buy my next computer. I can't stand to take it out at this point, so I either have to break my word to myself or wait. :)
I was going to buy mine last week. Decided to wait a bit. Hoping to save some more money first and also to delay it as long as I can. We'll see how that goes..
Not many can cough at those posting figures, I do know a guy though.... :)
Those that have dug their heels in this year will keep my support when the good times roll. The community seems to have shrank but that has allowed those here to build stronger ties.
I agree, and see it as a good time to develop and deepen relationships. It's sometimes not so easy posting something valid each day with all of the other stuff I have to do, but I try.
Haha, yeah I reckon I know that guy too...Crazy bastard that he is! 😆
I'm in the same boat with regards to posting something I feel useful to others - It's tougher when you take this route and perhaps I should worry less and just do 'me' posts. Totally engrossed in a couple of games at present, but I don't think either appeal to the masses.
He's already slipped one out today - like shelling peas!
He's a machine...
From the car... shhh ;)
Haha! Not whilst driving hopefully.

Of course not... ;D
I usually delegate some SP power to people when I create their accounts for 90 days to help them start their journey on Steem. If they are active enough, its relatively easy to grow to 50 SP level when the actions on the blockchain for the most part are no longer limited for a normal behavior, like posting, upvoting and resteeming. However, very very small minority of these people remained active to this day. But those who do, are very passionate for Steem and even invested some money into it.
I see delegations like this as the "teach to fish" approach. @abh12345 has some stats on the retention and interaction level from his own delegations and they are much better than the average. I am hoping that @ocd actions will be able to do the same for many more at a higher level and rate.
The passionate inspire more to become passionate.
With more hands on deck and much more SP available, OCD should have an impact.
I like the concept of "teaching to fish". Even better would be teaching "to teach others how to fish."
Hi @organduo, it's passion that steem needs, more passion to grow, build and develop it...We all have such a great opportunity here, to create something lasting, entertaining and profitable for all. I'm looking forward to the future and whilst I only started in mid-2017 I have worked hard at it with the hope my efforts pay off. I have started supporting a few here and there now so hope that makes a difference for them and the greater steem environment.
Thanks for your comment.

Yes... I wish we could fast-forward some 5 years from now... but we don't have time travel yet. If I could, I would also travel back to 2012 and sell that guy 2 pizzas for 10000 BTC, haha!
Oh yeah, Bitcoin pizza guy....Bet he wishes time travel was possible! Poor bugger. 🤣

I bet he has some BTC left though...

Probably enough to buy the pizza I had tonight for dinner at least! 😜

That's a good one... 😂

Yes it sure be nice if steem gets to value that gives us a nice reward for our time and effort spent here.

Crypto-millions for everyone! :)
Yeah😁😎

I have been reflecting about the same these days as I enjoy engaging here but many demands continue to appear and limit my ability to really read and broaden out my research and engagement as I would like. I like to do things well when I do them and not halfway but I have felt the struggle as of late. I have been thinking of a break but feel the pressure to remain consistent to not lose the progress made so far which I am proud of! The next couple of weeks will be interesting!

I think having consistency is important here...Maybe not for a larger account like yourself but certainly for little-old me...I feel very reluctant to miss a day of posting as I feel it may open the floodgates...And so I find things to write about and the time to write.

Maybe. Sad truth on this platform seems to be you may apply that effort and try and work hard on your posts, but it's still the link in the circle-jerk that wins votes and you're left with three cents.
On Steem, we've carried over this idea we seem to have IRL as well - that surely, if you work enough, you will be rewarded. But often enough, that's just not true. Not much you can do about it, though, especially if you don't wanna be a quitter.
But the truth is, you'll work hard and do your best and you might well get shit for your efforts anyway...:/
Yep, we've spoken many times about this and you know I agree. Still, quitting isn't really in my nature and so I continue to write. When I stop enjoying doing so I'll simply stop, or take what's in my noggin elsewhere and leave the circle-jerk-wank-festers here to splurge all over each other. Until then, I'll wear a rain coat and gum-boots and hope to avoid being splurged on... 💦 💦 💦
Ew. Ew. Ew.
Bwahaha!
I have a spare rain coat for ya!...No gumboots though.
Yes, energy/time expended. I am here for the community and engagement. Time will tell, but we are here on the ground floor.

Yes, it's early-days for us..."early adopters" @mattclarke calls us.
Not only that but I think that these people who have stayed also power a lot of other engagement on the platform. People like asher who keep another 100 people active and interested.
If we do ever get to $25 it will these people and you included that all of the next wave will be looking to for guidance like we did with the whales of our day. Hopefully we can set a better example of how to use the chain.
Yes, I hope so. Articles like this one are intended that way...Not to berate or cajole, but to suggest that a little effort by everyone will help the blockchain move forward. I understand that some only want to receive however it's going to take a little effort for this to turn into something...

To each their own fits here. Some people might only be on Steem as an investment, to make some money. Others might only be here for the social aspect. I expect many (most ?) fall somewhere in between.
Yep

Tell me about it. I'm close to breaking point in my efforts to help out the new people. My actions towards this are having a negative effect on my focus, my blog and especially my energy level.
I definitely need to find some balance and focus again, because even though I know why I'm putting so much effort in it, finding the energy and motivation gets more difficult every day...
