RE: What should I do help this platform?

in #steem8 years ago

I'm sure someone smarter than I will come along to give you some good advice. In the meantime, I want to thank you for how much you have supported creative people in this community. You have a great reputation for helping "the little guy". There are a lot of people who continue to contribute to the platform because you have encouraged them.

I'm sorry but I'm not a whale so I don't have any idea how to navigate this "experiment". I liked the idea when it seemed like participation would be voluntary. But now that it is being forced with down votes, I no longer truly understand its purpose and am not sure how the results can be accurately measured.

Oh man, this is such a sweet comment. Thank you. This is the first feedback I'm getting with respect to my voting behaviour.

I noticed when I voted for blogs that immediately their rewards dropped after it increased. So, I was baffled as to what I was doing wrong.

Again, thank you for the kind comment.

Timcliff posted about this a few times. Personally I don't think anyone should be forced to change their votes and I think the flags are way too negative, but if you need to in order to avoid the content creators being down voted, it looks like Timcliff advised onceuponatime (who has similar SP to you) to vote at 80%. Once again, I don't know very much about this, but I figured I could give you a place to start until someone who knows more comes along. Perhaps @onceuponatime could give you a more informed opinion.

Thank you for this!

My pleasure! It's the least I could do considering all you have done for people.

Hey @tamim - here is another post to help explain what is going on :)

You are free to do as you would like with your voting power, but my personal recommendation is that you 'play along' with the experiment. Out of everything that has been done around here since I joined back in July, this has been by far the biggest moral boost to the "regular users" of the platform - to actually see that their SP has some influence.

What I have heard is that if you can keep your votes (including any voting trails that may possibly be following you) under 800 MV worth of SP, that you shouldn't be subject to any downvotes (at least due to the experiment).

Hope this helps! Thanks for your great attitude towards making the platform better :)

So, my question to the gang is: what can I do to help make this place become "the place to be?"

  1. Help promote the platform
  2. Periodically visit the #help channel in Steemit.chat to see if there are any users that you can help answer questions for
  3. If you have developer skills and are interested in working on code changes to the UI, let me know ;)

I agree. I feel the morale boost right through the screen. I like this. Do you until when this experiment is meant to last?

I don't. It is a question for @abit.

I suspect (this is just my own opinion/theory) that if it is successful (which it seems to be) then there will be some discussion on how to make it more of a long-term thing in a way that is fair to the large stake-holders and does not incentivize them to split their SP into multiple little accounts.

I think it is successful. And, I am on board. I believe that more and more should be done to level the playing field, this way the little guy has a chance to also compete. It's bummer when he has to shovel snow with his bare hands. Lets give him a shovel! The big guy still has his snowblower. :)

You did nothing wrong. You just did what you have always been doing. You tried to reward and encourage content that is good for the platform. We all you a debt of gratitude for taking the time to do that! Until someone wiser comes along, I do think there was a post about whales adjusting their voting power so it would not trigger a down vote bot. I may be wrong but I will look for it.

Thank you for the encouraging words. :)
