What the Hell Steemit?...

in #steem6 years ago (edited)

Ok the first time this happened I thought it was just the price of steem dropping,
but now it is happening today again.
I think something is seriously wrong.
every time I upvote a comment it is taking away from said comment. Why is this?

As you can see above it dropped immediately...
thinking it just a one time thing I tried again......

Ok so now I thought perhaps it had something to do with the upvote so tried again....

ok so gave it some time and guess what same thing ....

Well I like to upvote and resteem but if my votes are hurting instead of helping...
what good is it???
I suppose I can not upvote or resteem anyone and that is sad.

So my warning is to all of you please watch the value of a post before you upvote and then again after see if this is happening to you!
If anyone knows why this is happening I am all ears...
please post your thoughts and theories below.

****Follow up: ****
This matter still baffles me but it seems to be resolved, it could have been just the fall in steem value but I did try refreshing before upvoting but who knows? ...at least the upvotes are going in the right direction now and I don't have to worry about hurting anyone's payout .

thank you!

As mentioned during conversation on #help channel at Steem.Chat it's just a way of presenting "potential payout".
Upvote never negatively affect potential payout.
Downvote does.
And resteem is absolutely not related with rewards.

You can use this comment as a playground.

it went up but as you can see above it was not before and I even refreshed before voting. It was doing the same this morning also. I did two test votes just before this one and there was no noticeable movement then this one moved by .01.....its strange

They way it is presented to users might be sometimes confusing. To learn what exactly is happening take a look at the voting details, you can do that by getting a link to a post or comment and replacing steemit with steemd.

Then click on "vote details" and take a look at "rshares" column. Positive value means upvote, negative means downvote. The more reward shares are allocated to a post or comment, the more cut of a pie it will receive when the payout comes (from the Steem's reward pool). Those are actual details taken from the blockchain. Blockchain doesn't know how much such potential payout will be worth but user interface can estimate it basing on some variables... which are changing, that's why you might get slightly different results.
TL;DR: It's all about rshares, potential payout is just rough estimate For example: https://steemd.com/steem/@gtg/re-hndmarshall-what-the-hell-steemit-20190325t131907222z

Strange :)

Refresh the page before you vote and see if you can move the payout in the right direction!

Feel free not to test this on my posts though! :D :D

think it is going the right direction now...lol
