Honestly, I'm just a minnow, but I'm not buying Steem because I can't buy it straight via Paypal/some other way to pay in USD directly. As I'm new to cryptocurrency, I haven't figured out which wallet I trust yet, so I will only accumulate the Steem I earn.
Perhaps in the future I will find a way to support Steem, but for now I wish to research more before I buy in via some third party.
