Imagine we went into a community and started selling something without growing a user-base or friend-circle, no one would actually give a damn to what you are doing ( except maybe a few ). But if you indulge in conversations and discussions with the community members and build a real following, then those people are going to support you and help you grow!
What a newbie should do first at Steemit is to create that support-base by interacting with the Steemit community. It doesn't matter if you post long articles in during your initial Steemit days, what had to done is to reach out to as much members as possible. One could find out an interesting topic here, share your thoughts in the comments, reply to people who you think you have an answer to.
Eventually we could see a follower base growth and then we can see votes coming into the posts/articles!

All great points. I dont know why people on here think it is any different. They arrive on STEEM and expect everyone to come rushing to them. They are baffled when their content gets no upvotes and wonder why.....well the fact you are here three minutes and have zero following might have something to do with it.
Over time, commenting is a great way to build that following and let others get to know you.
