I'm creating a list of people I follow that haven't been active for about half a year. Then i'm unfollowing them on the steem blockchain while continuing to follow them through a https://steempeak.com list.
Then from time to time I'll look at the feed of that list and see which of those users are active again... and follow them.
WHY UNFOLLOW INACTIVES?
- They don't post anyway... so why not?
- Organization and de-clutter.
- Public follow list is used by some people to see who they should follow.
TECHNOLOGY ACTIVATED
As most of you probably know https://steempeak.com has done a crazy amount of updates this last month... one of the biggest and coolest was the ability to make LISTS of users thanks to some utilization of Hivemind.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE: Follow vs List?
- FOLLOW = A public solitary decentralized list. Meaning it works on every front end... but there's just one.
- LIST = A private centralized set of multiple lists on SteemPeak that facilitate organization.
There are good things about both...
WHAT LISTS CAN DO:
- They can help you organize the users you're interested in.
- They can be a way to privately follow users.
- You can compartmentalize your consumption of content.
- You can follow a ton more people ... perhaps on a test basis.
- You can un-follow while not totally forgetting/ignoring.
EXAMPLES OF LISTS
- If I just want to see photography I go to my photography list.
- If i want to see what witnesses are writing I go to my witness list.
- I have a list for friends
- I have a list of all the steem projects i could find and see what they're up to
STEPS TO UNFOLLOW INACTIVES
Remember you will still be following these users on steempeak inside this list and you can re-visit the feed from time to time to see which ones are active again.
1. GO TO YOUR FOLLOWING
2. LOOK FOR OLD "LAST POST" DATES
3. ADD TO A LIST YOU NAME "INACTIVE"
Obviously you can call it whatever you want.
4. GO TO LIST
Don't be sad that there are so many people inactive right now... @steempeak is gonna do it's best to make this a happening place. Early adopter status is not easy... and anything before mass adoption is early adopter. So just be thrilled this many have stuck around during early adopter. haha
5. OPEN TABS AND UNFOLLOW
Nothing automated about it... I just have to click the buttons to unfollow these 60ish users.
Next LISTS to work on.
- I'm making a WITNESS list using the accounts found here: https://steempeak.com/witnesses
- I'm gonna find all the cool PROJECTS and add them to a list
- I'm gonna work on a list of cool PHOTOGRAPHERS
- CRYPTO/INVESTMENT writers usually are very prolific so I don't like following them because they overwhelm my feed but now I'm more than willing to add them to a LIST.
STEEMPEAK WITNESS
If all of this sounds awesome then you should support the project that makes all this possible by helping @steempeak through witness voting.
Vote on out profile page: @steempeak
Vote on the witness page: https://steempeak.com/witnesses
I'd say join us on Discord... but I'm more interested in just setting up a Steem Community for @steempeak
But for now discord is fine
I'm pretty sure you'll create some great lists, so maybe at some point we should allow users to share their lists with others :)
Oh what a clever idea... sounds like that could be something with a TON of potential. We should brainstorm that more. hahaha ;)
Great update and idea.

Wow this is cool. I need to spend more time customizing.
Very interesting info, can be really helpful. I am new to @steampeak, so I wonder, do their lists show only post of listed users, or also post they have resteemed?
Posted using Partiko Android
i think it's just posts maybe not resteems... but there is also a filter on steempeak that gets rid of resteems if you want
Thank you :) I will try and found out
