Key Points:

  • knowledge retention improves in p2p learning models
  • building a Learning Management System (LMS) on the Steem blockchain with incentives from classmates and peers for academic work completed and submitted
  • possible bounty or hackathon to build out features or platforms on the Steem blockchain (short-mid term goal)
  • creation of a education foundation to facilitate
  • connection with Microsoft
  • incorporation of the IPFS into LMS for controlled access (upload and download) of specific material (open-source or proprietary)
  • flexibility for different educators and institutions to build their own LMS based on default framework with varying options for data struct and incentive logic for user base (lets them have their own style!)
  • discussed 'Relay Station' concept (decentralized language translation incentive scheme) and how it could be incorporated into LMS'

I own the domain: opensource.college - I'll push it to you if you might want it.

Also have designing.college, developing.college, self.college, and linux.college. Linux I want to keep as I've built 50% of it. In February I got on a free school kick and registered the domains when they were cheap. Will be following this with great anticipation though. Is the correct tag #steemedu ?

This is awesome, Vegascomic! Thanks for offering up the domains! #steemedu will be the main tag going forward. Keep an eye open for the SteemEDU/BlockchainEDU Foundation that Kieran is working on starting up.

I'm so excited about this, as I too have been looking for "free" schooling solutions for a long time, and Steem seems like the perfect answer.

I figured someone was going to do something like this here on Steemit. Teamwork will help make things a reality faster, by yourself it's a tough road.

Absolutely! That's why we're trying to make this as open as possible. Anyone who wants to contribute in any way is more than welcome!

I think the Foundation will go a long way towards making it appear "legitmate" to the likes of devs or big entities like Microsoft, like Kieran mentioned. Then, we can start a hackathon or raise some bounties to try to fund this project.

The fact that we have schools already seriously considering this is huge, especially considering how young Steem really is. I just can't wait to see this all get off the ground!

Essentially, Steemit.com is just a big crowdfunding platform of sorts. I post something and supporters "pay" me by upvoting. Revenue could be raised for your project(s) by anyone wanting to by using a special tag and declaring an intention to donate the proceeds to the project.

It would be helpful if content they create for it would benefit the project some way. But doesn't really have to. An article or tutorial about node js could create funding, but also be instructional material for the school as well.

that would be awesome, thanks vegascomic! :)

Great podcast fellas, this steemEDU sounds like some great ideas are coming out.

I'm pretty new to steemit, trying to get some logo art done for the community
Live it, dream it, steemit

very cool, I think we'll need a better steemEDU logo than the one I've put together at some stage :)
