The Problem
When content is the result of a collaborative process there needs to be an easy what to split the rewards.
Good content is rarely the result of one individual creating in a vacuum. It often takes multiple people to create a story that is meaningful and relevant. Most content is monetized using advertising and usually within the context of an organization or company. Therefore the typical solution to this problem is to create a company, hire employees, then pay salaries.
Steem allows a new way for content creators to monetize their content, but there isn't a good way to share the love if there are multiple contributors.
Possible Solutions
There are a few work arounds now with Steem that are worth mentioning. You can create a single profile where multiple individuals can publish content. This allows organizations and companies to publish under a single identity and the rewards of the content can be distributed after the fact. The problem with this is all the people involved need to trust that the rewards will be distributed fairly and requires manual transfers of funds between accounts.
Ideally there would be some feature built into the system that would automatically distributes rewards.
Imaging if I could designate a user and a split of revenue. For example @kennyrowe 100% would send all rewards to me, and if I specified other users they would get a split. Now there are some issues that would need to get worked out to make this work well, like what if I type the username wrong, can I change it if rewards haven't been issued, and could you split Steem Dollars differently than Steem Power?
Next Steps
This is just an idea at this point, but it's my hope this starts a conversation about how to upgrade Steem as a community. What is the best way to add features and functionality? Could we use the system itself to bubble up the best ideas? Once an idea has been proposed how is it formalized into a specification?
I look forward to your comments :)
I like the idea, be good to see what can be done with it. Open source means we will get the best FROM the best... I hope lol
So many unimplemented features with loads of potential have already been requested.. Hopefully they will start adding more and more functionality to the platform so that it can shine as it should :)
