If there are enough people earning Steem will we see a "Real World" Steemit Economy?
What do I mean by this?
In the "Real World" we usually pay for both goods AND services with the local Fiat currency. Here in the virtual world of Steemit we see some people trading Steem for goods which are purchased and shipped or for services which can be provided via the internet. Examples of this would be translating, transcribing, video editing or graphics work.
I have payed for all of the above services using either Steem or SBD. An example of this would be the ongoing #steemgigs graphics work provided by @airmatti for my Trading Card series.
What About a Real World Service?
Many services cannot be provided over the internet. Gardening, electrical work, plumbing, snow removal, the list goes on and on. As more and more people are Steeming and earning the currencies Steem and SBD will we see more and more services being payed for in these currencies?
In my area I "know" about 8 individuals who are at least semi regularly earning and therefore at least potentially accepting these currencies as payment.
Announcement! Today I Paid For a Real World Service in Steem!
In my real job as the owner of a Facility Services company I had been hired to strip and wax the floor of a large physiotherapist's studio and I needed a hand as it had to be done over the weekend. I hired and payed @peter-parker 100 Steem for 11 hours of help! How awesome is that?

As a Steem earner and investor @peter-parker was quite happy to be paid in that currency!

Here are some shots of the area that we were working in. It went from quite gross to stunning! In the bottom picture you can see the results of stripping off the old dirty wax before washing and re-waxing it!
Is This Just The Beginning?
I hope that this is just a small taste of things to come. I am more than happy to both pay and be paid in Steem or SBD. What about you?

As you may already know, I am also using Steem to pay for things as well. I think the advent of a SteemCard would make the whole process of trading much more streamlined and efficient for all of us interested in doing so.

As you know, I definetly would! I think it's a perfect way to pay easily and fast, and since everything is written in the wallet it can be done instantly and safely! There's a lot of advantage... so I hope the market will develop! You made a good job anyway, after eleven hours of hard cleaning it looks like new!

Oh, I've missed this post so I cannot upvote any more. This is a good beginning to use STEEM for real services and to buy physical things. I wish it was more steemians in Hungary. Or just don't know them? Anyway, I accept STEEM, SBD, Bitcoin for my artworks. I would love to buy anything without exchanging to Euros or Forints.

I've bought some music and art for Steem or SBD. I'm looking out for other opportunities to spend it. It's a great way to spread it around as some people won't be into blogging, but they do other things that could earn them something. From the start I saw Steem as a new economy. It has advantages over other cryptocurrencies. No complicated addresses or fees and transfers are nearly instant. Seems like a winning combination to me.

you really used steem/SBD in right way in your practical life faily activities, i think you enjoy it much while purchasing any thing with it.

The beginning of a new journey ahead for sure steemit as we know is in beta but has come a long way from the initial start we all joined when it was nothing and we could feel and see the difference right now and as you said you just did the payment with the proof

Steemit is most popular media platform currently increase steem reputation with currency pumping movement.
Yes it seems that things are heading in the right direction!
That's the 'holy grail' for any crypto currency isn't it?
The first currency that solves that problem, and does it well, will be the king-maker.
Bitcoin is not really up to that challenge, maybe Dash can do it.
But I think STEEM, with the ability to earn by blogging, may just have the edge on other currencies.
Would I accept payment in STEEM?
Yes. I'd have no problem with that. I can see the value of it, and I look at this as a longer term investment, so as long as i still earn from my day job, being paid in STEEM is not a problem.

Steem is most profitable currency in the platform and easy to use & trade.

Looking at adding both BTC and Steem as a method of payment to our local art gallery/gift shop soon... it would be easy as the store already has its own Steemit account ( @reddragonfly )... the main thing I am thinking about (and I believe HF.20 is going to address this) is the relatively lengthy onboarding process for new members.
But even if we don't SELL anything for Steem/SBD, at least I am hoping that having a "Steem accepted here" sticker on the front door is going to start a few conversations and perhaps serve (indirectly) as a kind of recruiting tool.
Now we just need someone to come up with fairly standardized "Steem Accepted Here" window decals for shops and merchants... or maybe someone is already doing that?

Hello dear friend @ kus-knee excellent post. In my particular case I live in a province far from reality, when I talk about what I earn online no one believes me, and much less when my payments are virtual coins, they see that I am crazy, they look at me like an extraterrestrial, even the bitcoin almost nobody knows it, I think that for several years I will not be able to pay any service with Steem.
However, in the world this is very close.

Are you in Argentina? Steemit can help many people in lands that are economically challenged.
Steem might be one of the currencies that will be the fastest adopted and used for the "Real World" . With its fast and free transactions it's the best option in my opinion. I would definitely accept Steem for payment. The usd is a sitting duck and there is not even any interest rates for savings... Steem essentially is my own interest rate that I can use to make my own money .. that is powerful.
I have actually used Steem as payment in real life, and the funny thing is that I was paid from @airmatti, so it's going full circle hehe

That’s fantastic! I would definitely accept Steem in my salon but most of the people I ask have no clue what Crypto is and have only vaguely head of bitcoin.

That's interesting. As somebody new to steemit I hope it becomes more popular and useful with time. But for now, I'm still getting the hang of it and I'm not sure I understand everything about the economy here.
