I think it is a nodal point in the near future events. Blockchain transitions into realtime, even millisecond precise, massively distributed, massively resilient peer to peer data, query and computation services that make a little money for everyone, because of how much of a benefit it is to have such a network existing. Steem is just the sparkly point at the tip of the iceberg, and it just broke off from deep under the sea :)
