I wonder if they'll be trying to compete with the purported EOS method of airdropping on share holders or if it will simply be distributed by the classic "ICO model," where someone tries to snatch up the entire supply?

Who are shareholders in the EOS? EOS token holders? Sure I can buy that. It would explain why the EOS token is so inflated in price.
But the problem is that the token doesn't make the community. The community makes the token. EOS by itself has to offer increasing value to attract a community and build from it. This in my opinion is going to be challenging because Steem has about a million account head start. Steem is actually 10x user growth away from being established indefinitely and this can happen in months.
So I don't see EOS or ONO as a competitor to Steem. I see Steem as the entry point into all blockchain backed social media. From Steem people will buy EOS or whatever other tokens after having earned profit from blogging. I do not see people buying EOS tokens before they know how Steem works or earn on the EOS platform. If EOS provides enough ways to earn it then I see it growing well.
In fact, I'll use EOS myself if it can be earned as Steem can.
