So I Just Divested Bitcoin Into PeerPlays. Let's Talk About It.

in #steem8 years ago (edited)

Yep . . . I did it. I invested BTC into @PeerPlays.

Idea? Solid.

Tech? Solid.

Team? Solid.

Potential for return? Solid.

Gambling? Not very into it.

Lotteries, tournaments, etc. with hefty jackpots for those who prevail, incentivizing effort? Pretty cool. I like that.

I'm in. Are you? Why or why not?

Sort:

I certainly didn't drop 16+ BTC into it, but I did invest in PPY. Huge industry + graphene blockchain... I'm in.

That's what I'm thinking. Casinos are, well, they're fucking evil. They're the devil incarnate! And fallible, unpredictable, opaque human beings RUN THEM!!! Applying the concept that will never disappear no matter what, of gambling, to a blockchain and sprinkling in the beauty of distributed consensus into that, well, that's straight up golden. It also takes the "it's the devil," factor down quite considerably, but at the end of the day, it's still the devil haha. I mean yeah, I'm in too!

Hopefully our dice roll is a favorable one.

I also invested.

I think it's a solid overall idea but the initial coin distribution could be a lot better, which is probably the only thing keeping me out

Not enough of the total stake was allocated for the ICO

Well that brings about an interesting point that I was going to write about a little bit later today. That point being that the tokens NOT allocated in the ICO will be axed, unminted, killed! Which means that scarcity is driven up, and that only means good things for the token holders. Scarcity = more demand = higher prices. The less tokens in existence would (I think) mean that a larger chunk of the fees that're distributed to holders every 24 hours would also increase.

I think they're simply treading lightly when it comes ot publicity, advertising, etc. They have to distance themselves from the project to a degree, as it's a very grey area at this point in time.

I admit I only found a pie chart of the distribution somewhere on a medium article and it looked like only 11% of the total tokens were available on the ICO

So even if they burn the unsold ones, it wouldn't represent a large proportion of the total supply. I'm not 100% on my facts, so I do apologize if they're not accurate, I don't want to fud unnecessarily

That being said I think the project itself is fairly promising.

Have you been following the thread on bitcointalk?

not at all, there are too many projects to keep up with haha

Yup, tons of projects out there. Here's the thread, I suggest you read into it: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1462351.0

If you read that thread or search for specific points that you're wondering or skeptical about, you'll see that a few of your assumptions are inaccurate. If you read and let them dispel themselves, I think that you'd be much more confident in the project! Good luck!

I trowed 1 BTC let's see how big this goes.

Awesome! Best of luck to us all! Hopefully we never have to trade PPY and just get to enjoy the dividends provided from the global bets. That would be killer to passively accrue cryptocurrencies. I'm curious as to what payouts will look like in say, like a year.

Wow! Hope that works out well!

Me too! If I had boots on, they'd be shakin' haha. Thanks, man!

Having been in the Bitcoin Gambling world for many years now I think this is fascinating.

I agree with you on everything being solid technically speaking, it is just going to need the critical mass of users to be a huge success. Time will tell :)

I will likely start covering it on my Gambling Review Sites soon...

Yeah, for it to be lucrative to token holders, it's going to need a massive userbase. And to have that, word is going to have to be spread and people are going to have to be convinced. I think that it may be a good strategy to befriend a lot of the Counter Strike gamblers and get them onboard with PeerPlays. If you read, a lot of them gamble on sketchy rigged sites, which is unfortunate. Provable fairness with no house is bound to speak for itself.

Blogging about it surely will help! Gotta do legwork and get people involved. Good luck! When you post, be sure to link me, I'd like to read what you have to say and I'll certainly chime in.

Sounds good will do! It will need a lot of the affiliate sites on board for sure!

So I've been talking a bit with Jonathan Baha'i and it sounds like PP is launching with, well, nothing to play. Maybe rock paper scissors which I think is pretty stupid and not exciting whatsoever.

He's saying they're prioritizing sports betting FIRST, which if you look at their roadmap, is slated for like Q2 NEXT year, then they're going to focus on lottery style scratch offs after the sports betting, both IMO are boring and makes me considerably LESS stoked on this project. I just hope that someone writes some provably fair casino games for people to play with each other that don't care about sitting on their hands and betting on sports or digital lottery tickets.

Wow that is rather unimpressive. ..

It has been done a million times before but you HAVE to make a basic dice game. 10's of millions USD are wagered every week with dice. People love it and it needs to be an option for users.

Seriously, my thoughts exactly. Super easy to develop, and people are into it. It gives them something to play with while more things are being worked on. I just feel like if there's nothing to bring to the table at launch, people are going to be like "This is it? Well, this sucks." and eventually forget about it. They have millions upon millions in funding, surely to god they can implement some small toy for people to gamble with at launch . . . If there's nothing really, I'm most likely going to sell, recoup my money, and buy once everyone is done trash talking to to death for bringing nothing to the table. But hopefully we don't know everything just yet and there will be at least 1 or 2 small-time DAPPs to mess with.

It is going to be interesting to watch. With the game development plans you mentioned it sounds like they may have got funded way more than they expected and didn't think that far ahead yet...

I also invested a little bit. Let's see what will happen ;)
Thanks for sharing this great post, Matt. Upvoted & Followed you as well.

Cool! I think that this will be a good move. Well, I hope so at least! haha Fingers crossed!

Thank you for the follow and upvote! Resteem this if you could too, please! There's only one day left of the ICO with plenty of tokens left to grab!

I'll follow you back, thanks.

Also, I'd upvote you, but I'm letting my voting power replenish to 100% before I start back to voting.

Yes I try!

Did you buy into PeerPlays?

i was thinking also to put some btc on it , but with all that btc action im giving some space, ill wait and see if it catch any later on

Understandable. Looks like BTC took a little nosedive, but it was bound to pull down at least a bit after how much it has risen lately.

I WISH I had that much btc to toss around. Hell, just 2 would get me off the street within the week!

Give it time! Stick with Steem, trade a little, and you'll do well. Just be sure to be patient, do your due diligence, stay involved, and don't let emotions get the best of you if you're doing some trading. Good luck, man!

i only have $50 in peerplays

I could only afford 1.8 PPY

Any is better than none, hold it and see what happens! Not much to risk, so I would tuck that away as a potential little nest egg for your future. Just be sure to safeguard your keys and keep them stored somewhere where you wont lost them or have them compromised.

Any is better than none!

Thanks for your donation.

You're welcome, I suppose?

call me a fish, call me a noob but i can not figure out how to buy some of this PPY. I WANT IN. i see large potential for this. can someone please help?
