I believe that people should be required to recycle, because in the long run, we are going to run out of resources. Recycling is the best way to reuse things that will become scarce in the future. Recycling also saves quite a bit of energy, because the manufacturer does not have to mine and refine the raw material. By recycling, we also will decrease the need destroy habitats of animals; also paper recycling saves over millions of trees.
Scrap cars, old bottles, junk mail and used rubber tires are becoming common items of our landfills. Recycling allows these junk items to be used multiple times over again so that new resources do not have to be exploited. Recycling also conserves natural resources such as water, minerals, coal, oil, gas and wood. Another one of the benefits of recycling is that it allows more emphasis to be put on creating technology to utilize what already exists. This is why a number of industries support programs where they can receive large quantities of recyclable material to convert into new items. In the article “5 reason why people recycle and 5 reasons why people don’t” by Ronnie Citron, it states “Recycling saves energy because the manufacturer doesn’t have to produce something new from raw natural resources.”
When you recycle aluminum cans, you can save 95% of the energy required to produce those cans from raw materials. The energy saved from recycling one glass bottle is enough to light a light bulb for four hours. This clearly shows how much energy can be saved if recycling is taken to a larger scale. By recycling, we reduce the reliance on foreign oil, which helps to save money in the long run. In the article “5 Reasons Why People Don't Recycle And 5 Reasons they should." It states, “Recycling saves energy because the manufacturer doesn’t have to produce something new from raw natural resources. By using recycled materials we save on energy consumption, which keeps production costs down.” This shows that Recycling saves energy, because the manufacturer does not have to make something from scratch with from a natural raw material.
By recycling, we reduce the need to destroy habitats for animals. For example, recycling paper saves millions of trees. If people do not recycle, then the habitats for the animals will no longer exist. More people need to recycle to save these animals habitats. In the article "Recycling protects animals and humans." it states “Recycling preserves our resources and protects wildlife. “This shows that many articles that are for recycling state that recycling us on of the best ways to decrease animal deaths. Recycling will saving trash from rapping around animal’s necks, legs, and arms.
Now many people say that recycling is inconvenient, time-consuming or too costly. As of today, many places charge to recycle from home. But, recycling is becoming more convenient; many cities offer free curb side recycling and have drop off sites around the cities. Recycling can be time consuming but when you take in consideration the difference it will make it seem worth the time. When people don’t recycle, the products become pollution. “Over 1 million seabirds and 100,000 sea mammals are killed by pollution every year. People who live in places with high levels of air pollutants have a 20% higher risk of death from lung cancer than people who live in less-polluted areas.” Was said by the article "11 facts about pollution". Also it is only costly in very few states or neighborhoods. By recycling, we will create a safer environment, reuse thing more efficiently, and we will reduce the need to destroy natural habitats of animals by mining for raw materials.
In the end, I believe that people should be required to recycle. There are many reasons why people should be required to recycle including, recycling is the best way to reuse things that will become scarce in the future. Recycling also saves quite a bit of energy, because the manufacturer does not have to make something from scratch with from a natural raw material. By recycling, we also will reduce the need destroy habitats of animals; also paper recycling saves over millions of trees. These are all ways that we can stop animal population from decreasing each year.
