Thats not a unexpected or unreasonable response. They are not a public company, and they do not have a way to control prices, therefore no one owns any share in steemit.
We own tokens on a blockchain that operates on witness node servers. If steemit went down, but the witnesses keeps the light on, the blockchain would still run and operate.
What they do is development. We come along for the ride.
